Brennan aint it

That's not a fair assessment. Brennan got hurt in the 2nd quarter at Mizzou, and spent 2 1/2 quarters writhing in pain, yet still battling. The O-line deserved responsibility for the 0-10 3rd down conversion debacle.

Kelly didn't come here to do anything but win a national championship. He's not interested in having good records and playing in NYD bowl games.

Every LSU NC team had a QB that made necessary plays with his feet in every critical game. Mauck, Flynn, and Burrow

Brennan is not getting those yards.

Daniels has shown he can, but can he physically hold up, and even more importantly, can he know when to do it or make the throw

I think Nuss is a good mix of run and pass, but he has the tendency to force the deep ball.

Probably the closest comp for Brennan among recent LSU's QB's is Mettenberger. If the running game is solid, the OL holds up well, and the receivers are getting open, Brennan can make plays down the field. But the concern is what happens if/when your QB has to be the playmaker...not just the "distributor"? Brennan is not a guy who is going to make a lot of "off schedule" plays. It's just not his strong suit.

Now, does that mean he isn't the best QB for THIS team? Not necessarily. Daniels can obviously make plays with his feet. So can Nussmeier to a lesser extent (more of a "scrambler" than runner). But just because they CAN do it doesn't mean they are better options. The ability to extend plays doesn't matter much if (A) you can't hit the receiver once you extended the play and/or (B) you turn the ball over after extending the play.

Brennan may be the safer option. The option where you trade playmaking ability in exchange for ball security. However, the others (Daniels and, especially Nussmeier) have the bigger risk/reward value. Kelly kind of discussed that when speaking about Nussmeier. He's going to make some big plays. But how willing are you to live with the inevitable bad ones which you are going to have to if you want the benefits of the big plays.

IMO (unless someone transfers) the decision will come down you Kelly's risk tolerance. If he values the guy who be the best at protecting the ball but won't be able to make a lot of big plays when things break down, he'll go with Brennan. If he is willing to live with the inevitable "bad" plays in exchange for the big plays Brennan simply can't/won't make, then he goes with Daniels or Nussmeier.

My personal opinion: BK is in year one. This year will probably have the lowest expectations of any season in which he is the LSU HC. This team isn't expected to be a NC contender. Hell, they may not even be picked to finish in the top 1/2 of the SEC West alone. So if there was ever a season where you can accept a bit more risk than you otherwise might, this is probably it. Go with the boom/bust potential. There is not a ton to lose in doing so.

The guy shadows the GOAT for two years and when he gets a chance, he throws for 400 yards a game before he gets hurt and you question who is the QB? Who gives a rat's azz what they do in a scrimmage? The question is what they can do in a real game. The top three QBs have game experience, look at it and decide.

Did you see how Nuss played when put in games last year?

In 20 Brennan played 3 games and put up huge numbers and got hurt

I can appreciate everything you replied, but you're scenario still implies that he cares about winning some games as opposed to giving experience to a QB that has the potential to make the plays necessary to beat the teams you have to beat to win a NC

I can't believe you guys take a spring game so serious. How many times have we seen a player look great in the game but have a disappointing season. Game time is a lot different from a light scrimmage against your own team. We have lots of quarterbacks with talent but now Kelly has to find out who the gamer is. It is not who starts the first game of the season but who is starting against Alabama.

They are all quality QB’s. The competition they bring is what brings the best out of each player in that room.

We’re going to see a duo Qb system this season. He’s done it before at Notre Dame.

I think the only thing that’s holding back Nuss is experience but would love to see him get some this season.

In my humble opinion...look for Myles to start in September due mostly to his experience, with Nussmeier getting significant competitive reps early in the season (2 QB system). By the time they get to Auburn(Oct. 1), the guy starting that game will be the official QB1 for the rest of the way. Daniels won't be much more than a gadget QB this year, unless he absolutely blows the doors off everyone come August with his passing ability.

I have been a guy that thought Myles was going to be the guy.
Nuss looks like the better QB so far, though
But only the first half

The problem I have with this line of thinking is comparing apples to oranges. Nuss started with the 2s and Myles started with the 1s. That first team DL is nasty. JD could only run, Myles didnt have time to run on his first 2 drives. Once they put Myles against the 2nd team DL, he was fine. That 1st team OL coudln't block for anyone. SO yeah, Nuss looked great but he wasn't handicapped like JD and MB. I wasn't impressed with JD's throwing ability. Nuss and MB looked great throwing. Lacy dropped a 40 yd TD from MB too.

What about Burrow's fourth quarter vs Florida in his first year as a starter?
