Sam Leavitt Will Get Better

Seriously, he had a mediocre game in a tough road environment. Probability is higher than he improves throughout the season as opposed to staying the same or getting worse. From a mobility standpoint he’s elite. He will get better within the passing offense, and better rapport with receivers. Plus look at LK’s history with QBs, they all get better and develop. Historical data as a predictor of the future, Kiffin’s previous 2 QBs are doing pretty good…

But will the OL get better?

But will he get better enough?

I’m doubtful. We have other talented qb’s that throw the ball really well

If either of those QBs start and play that game we probably get blown out. Leavitt made plays in the game and there’s a reason a head coach as good as Lane Kiffin is starting him and not the others.

How much was he paid to get better?

And reference back to this when Leavitt is playing really well in an LSU run towards 10-2 and a playoff birth.

We ran for 172 yards last night vs a good front and a 5-8 man box. That was less than 60 the previous year vs a 4 man rush all game. They aren’t last year’s OL. We ran the ball in consistently the 2nd half, with Jones avg 4.5 ypc. Leavitt had more time in the 2nd half, as well.
We definitely weren’t good vs 5 and 6 man pressure in the first half. Bordelon couldn’t handle Echols at all, but he may be one of the best DTs in the SEC. But there’s potential for this OL to be good. Not amazing, but good enough that we can run the football.

He looked like a deer in head lights.

The emotional folks on here forget he is coming off a serious injury and is playing with a completely new offensive line, new offensive scheme, and new skill players. As they develop chemistry he will get better

Watching the first half last night I honestly thought Leavitt was not ready for the environment he was going to see at OM or a high level SEC game on the road for that matter. Hopefully he chalks that one up to experience and learns from it.
I have also felt that way about many of the transfers who came in from mid level programs. Jackson Harris comes to mind. Does many receiver things well except catch the contested ball. Doesnt seem to fight for separation either.

Well, I hope he certainly can’t get much worse. It’s not like he’s miss reading Ds. He’s missing widearse open receivers or just not seeing them at all because he’s tucking and running. Getting better? It won’t take much for him to get better.

His passing can't get much worse.

The truth is that we are all quick to forget what we have experienced previously not that long ago. Burrow only completed 57% of his passes in his 1st year here and people were not sure if he was the guy after a rough outing at UF and then getting blanked at home against Bama (even though we upset UGA). He looked like a game manager. It wasn't until the end of the season with the aTm 7 OT loss and the bowl game that people really started to feel he was the guy due to his toughness and determination.
Daniels had a much higher completion %, but we all remember his hesitancy to throw downfield and the tons of people on here calling for Nuss.
Now, Burrow and Daniels improved dramatically and had two of the best QB seasons of all time. Leavitt may not get to those heights, but he can indeed improve because we have seen it happen. He missed two wide open dudes in the end zone and he has to hit those for us to win a game like that. 3 passing TDs to 5 Ints. ain't cutting it (I know he has had a number of tipped or deflected picks, but still...). He is on course to easily break the LSU QB all-time single season rushing TD record with 6 already (record is 11 by Daniels). That part has been excellent, but he needs to be more patient in the pocket, go through his reads and quit sailing balls.

Overpriced overrated and not ready for prime time. Sam and his brother did a good job of hustling a lot of money from Lsu they oughta be put in jail as con artist.

His first game in a true sec environment on the road with all that drama. It was a great experience for him to have as we move forward. Not worried at all…..

Yes I agree. Lots of bright spots running the ball in the second half. The weak links are still at guard, especially in pass protection. Surprised Harper isn’t getting a look there yet. The other weakness is the lack of a true downfield wr threat to stretch the field and open up defenses. Wright was showing flashes he could give you something there but then he went down.

I disagree. If it were a timing issue, possibly. It's mechanics. Low delivery and feet are not set. He has multiple batted balls each game.
Posted on 9/20/26 at 11:11 am to Jeffreylebowski
Yes and there is history on his side that it takes time to adjust to a new team and scheme. He has the tools and he will get better.

He is a qb that looks to run first, and isn't accurate. Thats the bottom line
