What the frick is the matter with you? DiNardo came in and stopped the bleeding and gave LSU football it’s only years of excitement in the whole decade of the 90’s, including one of the greatest games in Tiger Stadium history.

He didn’t sustain it and in the end his stubborn loyalty to Lou Tepper lead to his rightful firing but the man did some good things at LSU. He does not deserve this type of childish insult.

Should've hired Steve Spurrier from Duke in 1990.

It was ghastly to be a student watching LSU football back in those days.

Was that the year he signed like 4 stud RBs? Jermaine Sharpe, Kevin Franklin?, Jay Johnson (?), and somebody else?

The 1992 recruiting class had the fab 5. The best running back from 5 states.
Robert Davis - Alabama
Jay Johnson - Texas
Robert Toomer - Georgia
Artie Moore - Mississippi
David Butler - Louisiana

Butler moved to defense. 3 transferred. Toomer stuck around, ran all over auburn in 1994 only to have the OC, Amedee, frick it all up and start calling pass plays snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Who remembers the schedule poster that said “Krewe of Curley”?

The jewel was Robert Davis…..insanely talented.

I was thinking Artie Moore, but I think he must have signed the following year.

Not only were they in FG range, they were on the goal line. Ricardo Washington also had a pick 6 that game I think.

It was a disaster. High hopes were set for Curley. We got handled by Georgia, skull fricked by A$M and should have lost to Vandy at home.

We managed to beat Ole Miss which was the bright spot of the year. It was a miserable season.

Yeah, you’re right and I was at that game. Thanks.

All of the shitty home games (and there were many) from that era of my college days run together. My memory keeps getting worse.

This was about the time I was finding out how much I loved LSU football, so I have vivid memories from almost all those games. I remember dropping 70 on Arkansas State and Kinchen returning a punt to the house, then topping it by one yard the next week against Kentucky (the best win of that season), and I remember the first time being genuinely angry that LSU lost, when we dropped the home finale against Mississippi St.

Archer was not a bad coach, just did not recruit.

Never forget seeing him walking out of CCL with his golf clubs about a week before national signing day.

Went back and watched highlights of the 1988 Tennessee game, and the announcers repeatedly commented about how short WRs Tony Moss and Alvin Lee were. They were Tigers with heart and they had their share of great catches, but it was like watching Hodson throwing balls to Smurfs.

Curley wasn't a good HC. But there was excitement when he was hired because his Southern Miss team had beaten multiple ranked power conf. teams. While most knew Favre was a good player...NO ONE knew he was a future NFL HOFer.

Curley sucked, but the scheduling back then was FAR different than it is now. LSU played 11 games. They opened the season at Georgia and at (ranked) Texas A&M. They also played #1 Florida St. (and played well against them) in addition to 7 SEC games. Today, LSU would play 4 non-conf games. At least three would be cupcakes

That was a time where the MUCH tougher ticket on campus was across the street at the PMAC. In the early 90's you couldn't give LSU football tickets away. I know. I tried!!

Chad Loupe prepped at U High. Far cry from Baker

He was probably thinking of Chris Moock who was a QB for LSU from 87-90. He played 3rd base on the 91 national championship team and had the game ending play in the NC game vs Wichita State. Moock was an 87 baker grad.

Archer was an excellent Defensive Coordinator

Hallman had a rep as a guy who had an "intense drive" to mentor young Coeds to "achieve their desires" by spending long hours "counseling" them alone in his office

which was a shame because he had a very lovely wife named Dale that divorced him soon after he was fired from LSU. Apparently Dale busted Curley "mentoring" one of the young ladies in the Football Office and she made a big scene at their house in Riverbend that had to be covered up by the LSU mafia

that jogs the memory! As i recall Kinchen had a big punt return for a TD. some drunk fans were in the student section---obviously not students--making fun of the Fl State War Cry---hoooomo-sexuaalll; suckon my nuts, oh suckon my nuts.

and the ReTardo thing, maybe that was harsh. he did bring us back to some respectability and keep La Talent in state. but he was not ready for prime time. to wit: the refusal to ditch Tepper, the complete and utter let down vs ole miss one week after beating #1 Fla, the completely overhyped ,98 season---werent we at 6 early in the season??

Joe Dean was pinching pennies. He actually cut the recruiting budget. Plus you had Bowden and Bill McCartney recruiting the hell out of the area along with Miami. NOLA and BR were open territory....hell Kansas and KSU got into the act with Mike Smith from Jesuit going there and for a while being their all time leading rusher. Warde Manuel from BM went to Michigan and Rod West went to ND. Pat Riley at Shaw went to Miami. Shaw had a bunch of great players at the time and none went to LSU.

Joe Dean made it very hard and stubbornly made any coach have to accept Sam Nader as director of recruiting. Of course Archer not being a recruiter did not help, but Arnsparger did not recruit much either. Most of his success was due to Jerry Stovall's players.
