Tell me about it that was my 1st year at LSU and memories are cloudy. Win or lose we still booze(d)

i know it was Curley's 1st year, after Archer took a highly regarded program and ran it into the ground (a la Orgeron 30 years later)

We had Todd Kinchen, Kevin Mawae, Corey Raymond and thats about it. Odell Sr. and Jack Bech's uncle were also on the team but i dont remember a whole lot else. i know we lost pretty badly to Georgia and got blow out by 8&4

What else happened.

No, not even close. O won a National Championship. Curley didn't win a damn thing. The Curley years were rock bottom.

Curley was the worst coach LsU ever had.

Is Curley the only HC we've had that never had a winning season?

I meant Archer. he pulled an O and ran the program into the ground. won the SEC in '88 and then shitt the bed in 89 and 90.

no. Curley was absolutely the worst ever (tho his recruiting did set the stage for ReTardo) . i am just trying to piece together what happened that year

I went to an alumni dinner held to meet the new coach when Curly was making the rounds after he was hired. He was asked the most important position on the team…he answered: the long snapper.

I thought he was joking…unfortunately he wasn’t.

A few weeks later he lost 45-7 to A&M.

Definitely the worst LSU coach ever.

I would compare Archer more to Dennis Allen - an excellent defensive coordinator who was in over his head as head coach.

1991 started out shitty with bad loses to Georgia and Texas A&M. Barely beat Vandy, but it seemed to kinda turn the season around. Was 4-4 going into the Bama game with hopes of finishing strong at 7-4 and a bowl bid. Lost a heartbreaker to Bama 20-17, when genius Curley went for a game-tying field goal when a tie wouldn't have helped LSU's cause of bowl eligibility. Well, the FG was blocked and LSU lost anyway. The air sorta exited the balloon at that point. Lost to Miss State 28-19, then beat Tulane. Really wasn't a terrible year considering, as LSU played and led #1 Florida State for 3 quarters mid-season and should've beaten Alabama. Future was "optimistic", but it only got worse. Finished 5-6 in '91.

One of my earliest memories. Gave FSU and Bama all we could handle and probably should have beaten Bama. And might have been the most exciting LSU-Vanderbilt game ever.

Curley can thank Brett Favre for getting him the LSU job. I’m still bitter at Curley.

Led Florida State at the half, 16-7.

Should have lost to Vanderbilt and that was a terrible game. Vandy fumbled in FG range with less than 2 minutes to go and LSU recovered it. Ricardo Washington and Wayne Williams, TYFYS.

Orgeron won a National Championship because of Brady, Aranda,Burrow,Chase Jefferson ETC. nothing he did. Curley signed Josh Booty and he decided on Baseball, I don't know if Peyton Manning would've played in Baton Rouge, but it might have been interesting.

Archie Manning would disown any of his descendants that ended up at LSU. So you can end that dream right there.
