What’s the plan for Evans? Obviously didn’t make the type of leap they hoped from last year, but heavy lies the crown as Friday night guy.
Would love to see him back as the first high leverage guy / closer with chances to throw twice on weekends…

Continue to push forward with starter intention
Y3 is the realistic breakthrough year historically. I think Jay thought he may have been one of those rare Y2 guys, but wasn’t. Same with Schmidt

Good post. Thanks for the breakdown. Moore is coming back due to medical redshirt.

Feel free to read & understand the context of what I said & spelled out.
It’s funny cause a guy like Eddie Yamin has a bunch of Stans but no one blinks or says the team is doomed if he was brought back lol.

There are fan favorites and there are scapegoats.

Pitching wise, they just really have to focus on guys who have command. We have a ton of guys who have elite stuff, that have top of the rotation potential, but we HAVE to have multiple Cooper Moore type guys who can simply throw strikes when they need to.
It was quite a difference going from 2025 #1 & 2 taking the mound every weekend and dominating to the 2026 #1 - #3 with injuries through out the SEC schedule then Schmidt not able to make his start in Hoover at the last minute. They need to reevaluate what the S&C program needs to improve in an attempt to keep the pitchers able to go.

Midweeks are for freshmen. The first guy out is your primary RP

I would take a catcher with zero power, hits for .225 and doesnt strike out
No catcher is coming in to compete with Bide and Serna. There's no chance you can convince one to transfer into that situation. Your best hope is that those 2 just get better defensively.
The rest of your post is great it you want to finish middle of the pack in the SEC. But what's the point in that? You swing for the fences on talent and hope it pans out so you can win it all

Any incoming freshmen that could be a year 1 SS?

The best incoming infielder, if we get him to campus, is CJ Weinstein. He projects to be able to start right away. But he doesn’t project at shortstop.

Jay isn't going to build his roster counting on any freshman starting. That doesn't mean they won't earn the job.
Right now I can only read their profiles. I can give you a better answer in the fall when I can get eyes on them.

the list of pitchers better than Evans and Schmidt that will be in the transfer portal will be very short
Exactly. And the price of that player will be through the roof.
There’s a lot of fans who just don’t understand how unlikely it is to land a guy like that.

I don't think we need a pitching staff makeover. The talent's there (IMO). What Jay and Yeskie need to be able to do is coach these guys better and make better in-game decisions. And Jay needs to decide is Yeskie is still the man for the task.

Rizzy can take the first flight out of BR. Guidry is a Tiger legend, but regressed badly this season. Need horses to return to that Bullpen: Cooper, Ack, Herring, late season Hurd. Can't win if you can't close games.

Guidry is who he has always been. He is an average pitcher at best. The rant just gives him free passes because he is from here, shows emotion, and has had a few big moments. If it was a choice between Rizzy and Guidry, I would take the risk on Rizzy. If he figures it out, he will be super valuable. Guidry is what Guidry is, and has been since day 1.

With that said, Bide and Serna will return and split Catcher/ DH
I am not confident of this, at all.

In my opinion you left off the most 'critical' need, a strong catcher. This season, game in and game out, it was a rarity that one of the catchers didn't make a bigtime error. I get it. The pitchers often attributed to this element. However, it seemed as though the catchers were a bit off all season long. To me, the catcher is like a quarterback. A good catcher is generally the leader of the team.

Serna and Arrambide bring too much offense to not play. Arrambide will be in his draft year and will want to showcase at the catcher position. There was a podcast I listened too recently that suggested Arrambide might not willing to play second fiddle to Serna if Serna proves to be the better option.
I don't buy that at all. You need two catchers and they will probably split equal time catching. The third catcher will either be Yamin or freshman Belding. Serna was a little rough playing 1B when I saw him in the fall his freshman year. Arrambide was serviceable that same fall. Of course you will see both at DH as well.
I would be shocked if they bring in a defensive catcher. I did hear that they will bring in a specialist to work with the catchers this off-season. I don't know that for sure, but it was mentioned on a podcast.
I also think that Yetskie will change his pitch calling. Expect more fastballs and more attacking the zone. It has some added benefits of giving your pitcher a more aggressive attitude and can lower his pitch count because opposing teams will make more contact. It should also cut down on the defensive errors by our catchers. Without looking at stats it seemed they already went to this approach the last two games of the year and pitch fairly well, in spite of the injuries.
That being said, you need pitchers with command and movement on their fastballs. You also a stellar infield, which makes getting Milam back a big priority for Jay. I expect he will be offered a large NIL deal.
