It would actually make the playing field more even. Schools can pay players easier than begging boosters. Also being employees means you can place restrictions on NIL and such with contracts.

college ball is quickly turning into (or has already turned into) pro ball. And I hate pro football.
My interest level the last couple years has faded.

I can't see how Universities can offer more NIL money to certain groups. It has to be equal. I don't see this one working out. Now, university booster clubs should be able to say "we're not the university", but I'm sure it'll be challenge in court.

To do this they would have to have a salary cap for equity. Otherwise the sport is ruined.
Another point is somewhere along the line boosters are going to get tired of paying players for poor results and then the compensation model collapses. In other words, suppose I have a $40 mil payroll and take in $140 mil to the program which in turn funds university non revenue sports. If you take in the same amount of revenue whether you win a trophy or not there are many who will tire of this and donate their money to concrete projects

The NFL salary cap does not apply to NIL deals pro players sign. In other words, Patrick Mahomes' money from State Farm doesn't affect the Chief's salary cap in any way.
There is already a type of salary cap in NCAA athletics. It's just that NIL has become more important, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

I don’t like the idea. If this happens then there should be a cap on all programs to maintain competitive play. But if this is implemented LSU would still be a top tier program.

Yeah, that part seems like a dagger to any non revenue sports. I could see LSU cutting everything but men's football, baseball, and basketball. And having only women's basketball, softball, and gymnastics. They might also keep track and field for both.
But then you're still overpaying the female athletes in those sports or being left behind in men's sports.
There is a reason why the Women's National Soccer team won a World Cup and still got paid less than the men's team that missed the World Cup that same cycle. Nobody wants to pay as much to watch women's sports. It's not very profitable. Title IX is a socialist idea and NIL is a capitalist idea and they mix together about as well as oil and water.

Our athletic department budget in 2023 was sixth largest in the nation. We are in the SEC. We aren’t poor.

If TAF is redirected, LSU will thrive. Also, from what I understand, female athletes must be matched dollar for dollar. If you pay a football player 1 million, that much must go in the female athlete pot. Gonna cause some of theses top programs heartburn.
