President of NCAA proposes NIL rule change

That would allow schools to directly pay athletes… (reporting per ESPN / NCAA president is named Charlie Baker — easy to research).
This is bigger than anything being talked about in sports, flying under the radar… would be the nail in CFB coffin & almost certainly buries LSU in short order.

This would help LSU if we could use TAF funds, but I don’t like this for CFB

If the athletes are getting paid, the school should be involved. It’s easier to regulate and the revenue streams are now tied to the expenses

That would make them employees, yes?
Kind of throws out the "student athlete" moniker. Are they state employees? TAF employees? Independent contractors? Is going to class a condition of employment?

I think the implosion of Texas A&M as well as the lack of success you've seen at Miami show that just because you have a ton of money doesn't mean you automatically go to the front of the line with regards to success.

TAF bought us a useless stadium deck upgrade. They can certainly pay for top talent.

If anything, this would help LSU. It would allow that TAF money to go directly to players instead of having to be rerouted through bullshite marketing deals.

While I'm totally against it, the scenario being proposed would entail some kind of revenue-sharing, so the field would actually be more level among the schools that opt-in to this system.

There's a lot about Baker's proposal that has not been fleshed out. The article says the proposal would demand that schools make equal NIL investments in mens and womens sports. Still too early to tell if something like this would have any legs.

Interesting. That’s better than a free for all at least — kind of weird to implement something like that with optional participation… guess we won’t know what it looks like til something actually goes live.

Athletes would be Independent Contractors with school having no obligation for tax issues are even paying employer fica taxes. Tax deductible to schools
