re: It's pretty cool to win with no earned runs
Posted by el gato on 4/26/25 at 9:24 am
quote:Almost correct, but not quite.
First, the 2 errors let those first 2 runners on so they never should’ve been on base. Hence 2 unearned runs.
Second, those 2 errors would’ve been outs 1 and 2. Stanfield’s fly out would’ve been out number 3 so anything that scores after Stanfield’s at bat is unearned.
Frey reached on an error to lead the at bat, Milam struck out, and was followed by Brown, who also reached on an error. Without the errors, LSU goes three up, three down and the game is over. Everything that followed after the first three batters wouldn't have happened without the errors.
It was an unearned run bonanza.

re: Bush League move by Kentucky vs A&M?
Posted by el gato on 3/31/25 at 2:47 pm
I recall Texas doing this in the third game of a three-game series with LSU in Austin in 1998. The teams split the first two games, and Texas won the third game 7-5 when it was called after eight innings. Aferward, a reporter asked Skip Bertman what he thought about Texas stalling in the bottom of the eighth. He said he understood why they did it. He also said it wasn't something he would do, but he understood why Texas did it.

re: Is that the best start in program history at 22-1?
Posted by el gato on 3/22/25 at 12:43 am
I believe you are correct. The 1986 team, Bertman's first to reach the CWS, started out 21-1. Pretty sure that was the best start until this one.

re: Question for LSU fans
Posted by el gato on 3/15/25 at 10:22 pm
If A&M was 2-0 instead of 0-2 in the SEC baseball standings would you still be bothered enough by 2-0 LSU to make a thread like this one? Someone should have pity on you and make a check in thread for winless SEC teams.

re: James Woods: “State Farm WASN’T There”
Posted by el gato on 1/12/25 at 2:26 pm
Woods stating that "State Farm WASN'T There" is factually correct. For decades, apparently, State Farm was "like a good neighbor" to him until it wasn't. Still, all his statement does is point out the fallacy of the feel-good marketing campaign of State Farm or any other insurance carrier.
The concept of insurance is based on indemnity for a loss that is unexpected. When the loss is predictable or to some degree foreseeable, when proper safeguards aren't taken to mitigate loss, insurance companies will cancel coverage. This can be on an individual basis, for example, if a homeowner doesn't properly maintain his home, or it can be across a wide area, as was the case in California.
The takeaway from Woods' statement is that insurance companies want you to feel good about buying their product, not worry about the intricacies of having your policy canceled, discontinued or priced so high at renewal that it is no longer unaffordable.

re: LSU vs MVSU 110-45 final LSU wins in a nail biter. Carter surpasses 1000 career point
Posted by el gato on 12/29/24 at 7:59 pm
In the SWAC, a league of cash-challenged HBCUs, Valley has the least profitable athletic department. A couple of years ago, Southern led all HBCUs with $18 million in athletic revenue. Valley was at the very bottom with $4 million. That lack of funding affects everything from scholarships to travel accomodations. While the outcome of tonight's game was predictable, whatever sum LSU paid Valley to play the game made it worth their while.

Again, not likely but plausible.....thoughts?
A logjam of 10-2 SEC teams would be the perfect shitstorm for a bloated conference that doesn't schedule enough conference games. I'm sure my math is probably wrong somewhere, but I see eight teams with a chance of all going 10-2 at the same time:
TN – Ark, UGA
UGA - Bama, OM
TX - UGA, A&M
A&M - ND, LSU
LSU - USCw, Bama
Bama - Vandy, TN
TX - UGA, A&M
OM - UK, LSU

That’s not what OP is saying

Didn’t think the fans would storm the field after a win last night, guess I was wrong.

quote:Not sure what your point is. As small as Vandy's stadium is, it still holds 10k more fans than Yulman.
LSU played @ Vandy two years in a row-- that stadium is small
re: LSU vs Tulane
Posted by el gato on 8/29/24 at 3:28 pm
quote:LSU may play Tuilane again at some point, but it will never play a game at Yulman Stadium. Seating capacity for Yulman is 30,000, which is all Tulane needs, but LSU hasn't played in a stadium that small since the 1950s.
My guess is LSU would want 2 home games in order to give Tulane a game at Yulman which is a losing proposition for LSU or a game in Tiger Stadium, game in Superdome with LSU getting most of tickets/revenue and a game at Yulman. That would likely be the only way for it to work
re: CBS predicts us to play Nebraska in music city bowl
Posted by el gato on 8/17/24 at 12:35 pm
That's Jerry Palm's predictions on CBS' website. Two years ago he predicted LSU wouldn't even make a bowl game. Last year he picked LSU to play in the Orange Bowl in a rematch with Florida State. His predictions are no better than something the average rantard could come up with.
re: New Alex Box Renovations Released
Posted by el gato on 8/2/24 at 12:47 pm
The premium seating looks like it is too low and doesn't appear to provide a good perspective of the field. I prefer being a few rows higher where I can see the entire field. Good luck selling seats to that.

re: Nice hearing we're preseason No. 1, but not sure that's a good thing

quote:They were. USA Today/ESPN and Collegiate Baseball both had LSU preseason no. 1. Baseball America and National College BB Writers had LSU no. 2.
I don't know what we were ranked preseason going into 2009 in baseball but we were coming off of an Omaha run in 2008 and had a lot of talent returning, I have to imagine they were ranked pretty high.
