The top 25 teams in Phil Steele's projected 2026 rankings:
1Notre Dame
2Georgia
3OhioState
4Texas
5Indiana
6Oregon
7Miami
8Alabama
9Texas Tech
10BYU
11USC
12SMU
13Oklahoma
14Ole Miss
15Michigan
16Texas A&M
17Clemson
18Louisville
19Penn State
20Navy
21Tennessee
22LSU

I think Phil needs to retire. Not saying we are top 10 but really Phil. Clemson ahead of us. Texas AM that low. This guy has lost it.

Every year we hear about how this is the year for USC and/or Notre Dame. They lead the nation in hypothetical victories.

Is this how he thinks the teams will finish the season? Or is it his ranking of a teams quality before any games are played?

For example, ND is a good team. But I don't think anyone would rank them No.1. However, there schedule is pretty weak. The only games that look remotely challenging (on paper) are Miami, BYU and SMU. But then you see only one of those is on the road (at BYU). That creates a scenario where ND is not as good as some SEC and Big 10 teams. Yet they finish the season No. 1 because they play a lesser schedule.

Same logic applies to Texas Tech. They don't have a QB, but their schedule is suspect. The non-conf is especially tough with games vs. Abilene Christian, Sam Houston, and Oregon St.

Notre Dame 1 is a stretch, but they're going to have a good team this year. They've recruited well.

And now I feel dirty from just saying that. frick 'em.

Who cares. You are going to find hits and misses in every ranking. I bet not many people had Miami #2, Texas Tech #7, BYU #11, Vanderbilt #15, etc in their preseason polls last year.

Wouldn't be Phil Steele without overrating Alabama. Look at last years and now this years. Dude has lost it. Just lives in his own reality of how he perceives some names/brands independent of actual performance.

The teams in bold all play LSU next season. I'm trying to figure out the scenario where we are 22nd, and 6 teams we played are ranked ahead of us.

The teams in italics will seem unlikly to all be ahead of LSU.

Yeah Notre Dame is solid. But USC? Feels like 5 years in a row that we’ve heard that Riley’s finally fixed the defense and they’re primed for the CFP. Smh

Clemson will be favored in all but two games, who happened to be the only ranked teams they play, Miami and LSU.

LSU plays 6 ranked teams.

At end of season, they have a better chance of having more victories.
