re: Per scrimmage reports, we still can’t run the ball

We need to push from the guards... I wonder if they're still experimenting with curne there

It sounds to me like the front 7 on defense is legit and our oline is getting broken in before week 1. The problem with last year is they thought they were better than they were because our front 7 was mediocre at best. It’s hard to identify issues when 1 side is dominant and the other isn’t. This SHOULD make our Oline better and more prepared for week 1 but we will see.

Bottom line is elite offensive teams dont get stopped by anyone

Per Koki Riley of The advocate:
Both the first and second team offenses struggled to move the ball against either defense. Neither offensive line could generate running lanes for the running backs. Sophomore tight end Trey'Dez Green failed to haul in a walk-in touchdown grab and was called for holding on what would've been a touchdown for senior wide receiver Zavion Thomas.
Even the new wrinkles offensive coordinator Joe Sloan tried to install before the scrimmage didn't go as planned. The offense worked on a variety of plays involving sophomore running back/quarterback Ju'Juan Johnson throughout practice, in which Johnson would receive the direct snap. During those plays, Nussmeier would either line up at wide receiver or motion out to the perimeter.
The Tigers also had a variation of the concept involving sophomore running back Caden Durham receiving the snap directly instead of Johnson. The offense ran a play with Johnson receiving the ball and Durham getting a snap against the first-team defense, but neither sequence turned into a substantial gain.
The unit also had trouble containing the defense in the run game. On the last play of the scrimmage for both second-team units, redshirt freshman linebacker Tylen Singleton was able to break loose into the backfield and force a fumble from freshman running back Harlem Berry.
AAAHHH if you ever played you would know intersqaud scrimmages are not a true read on the capabilities of offense or defensive units. THE DEFENSE KNOWS OUR PLAYS AND PLAYERS SKILLS AND TENDENCIES AND VISA VERSA. Not a true gage.
Relax we will know by the second or third game. My bet is our run game is improved

So I’m reading the Wildcat formation in particular has not worked and a backup RB fumbled a carry.

I think our defense is going to be really, really good this year
The offense will be fine but they are going to get their shite pushed in by that Clemson d line. Anybody without purple and gold blinders on has to be able to see that. Nuss will have to get it out quick to be efficient

Call me a posi-tiger or say I have purple and gold glasses on, whatever, but I have heard more positive things about the defense than the last 3 off seasons combined. I’m going to chalk that up as a positive thing in my book.

That quote from Koki is specifically about red zone offense. He later said it was an up and down day for the line, but a step in the right direction.

Either LSU's front seven is going to be way better than people think or we in for another serious concern season where LSU can't run the ball
A dominant front 7 doesn’t dominate as much as what we are seeing so far.
The OL currently is bad. MAYBE it’s a cohesion thing that solves itself over the next few weeks.
But we’d be in big trouble if we had to play a game right now.

We lost our OL. Don’t expect it to get better.

Our defense is loaded.
It is. And so are most of the posters on this thread.

It won’t be as bad as ppl anticipate
I hope you’re right. But I also remember when people on this board said they weren’t worried about the DB’s getting dominated because they were going up against good receivers.

I'll go out on a limb and say our rushing attack will be improved this season
That doesn’t mean it won’t suck

It is a new offensive line. Over the next couple weeks they will gel.
Posted on 8/9/25 at 8:25 pm to Number2
The offensive line for the first practice didn’t allow a sack! That’s the takeaway from this scrimmage, they are beginning to gel.
I’ve seen videos of previous practices with Johnson scoring from that same wildcat package and the defensive has seen it all camp, it wasn’t a surprise. I’ve also read about numerous big runs Durham has hit during fall camp. 1 practice isn’t enough to gauge much. But the oline holding the defense finally to 0 sacks is promising.

I remember last year we were focused on running the ball more and we looked good in practice. So I’m very optimistic by them saying we looked bad
