This isn’t even my issue with the fire Maineiri crowd. I’m not screaming for him to be fired but if he was I wouldn’t be upset. My issue is these people can probably only name 4 or 5 college baseball coaches and would be mad when LSU inevitably doesn’t get them. LSU would end up with a really good coaches no one really knows like Tony Vitello or Greg Lovelady and those same people would complain about them because they aren’t Corbin or Sullivan or Schlossnagle.

Bianco will have to earn his keep at the plate for this to stick. Which he could.

I'll hold off judgment

Mainieri has usually ended up playing the 9 best hitters and putting them in whatever their best position is. Problem is the last few years, we haven't had anywhere near that many good hitter on the team period.

I was under the impression that CPM loves solid fielding and especially at SS. I think he's willing to give up some bat for glove there.

with this many "let me try him at ss" scenerios" we are in touble again this year im afraid. jmo.

hitting against sec pitching.....below average
pitching against sec opponents.....above average
defense against sec opponents....average?

sec record this year i think will possibly be 17-13, 15-15 or 12-18.

Can I complain about him putting in our worst pitcher on the roster who was also a freshman in the CWS in the most crucial moment of a must win game? Is that cool with you?

Jake Godfrey. TCU. 2015. It was just 4-3 with Bain struggling and we needed to get out of the inning badly. In comes the freshman who had the worst ERA on the team to get us out of it???

He faces just one batter but that was enough. Other pitchers we had available: Devall, Norman, Stallings, Bugg...

ETA: the second worse move was also that game. Pulling Newman for Bain when he did.

Have we thought of the possibility of Arnold/Cranford having COVID

Oh yea the year he started Poche the opener.

That pitching staff had no real weapons out the pen.

Newman as the closer had a 0.50 ERA. Bugg was 1.72 and Norman was 2.04. They (Bugg and Norman) combined for 2.2 innings, 3Ks, 0 BBs, 1 hit that day... but they were left on bench for... 4.61 Godfrey who couldn’t hit the zone. Godfrey should have actually walked his batter but the guy swung at two pitches out of the zone before he got his 2 RBI hit.

ETA: I called Newman the closer but it was really Stallings that year.

Anybody remember 2010 when Wet Delatte, Grant Dozar, Alex Edward, and Beau Didier all had trouble at the position?

Serious question why do you believe that we will struggle this season?

If cranford had covid, i woulsve expected PM to just say that, or at least hint at it like he did with marceaux and labas. He specifically said the shortstop battle was between arnold and bianco

Because a coach in a 50+ game season doesn’t have his exact lineup he is going to use in the College World Series set up before they play any baseball games against another team.

It’s not a lineup issue per se, it’s the failure to recruit guys that fill a need. Bianco is in his third year. All of a sudden we are going to try him at SS ? This is a sign that he failed to address a need there. How do you not have two true SS competing for that spot every year (or a solid vet with young talent behind him)? We aren’t talking about outfield , we are taking about SS. If you have to have one position locked down as early as possible it’s SS. Lockdown can still be a battle between 2 young guys you recruited for that position. This is the second year in a row where this position will be an issue. He didn’t have a replacement for Smith last year and doesn’t this year. This is no different than Les not having a QB to replace Mett in 2014,15, 16.

Timing decisions are always it least a little subjective. When to pull someone can always be questioned by hindsight... Putting in the worst pitcher we had on the roster during the most crucial moment when you had much better options... THAT is objectionably retarded.
