Give him a couple of hours to research.

Hope in wrong but this tells me Pawl doesn’t trust anyone they’ve tried over there so far. Seems a little concerning 48 hours before Opening Day

This is how I've been reading it since he mentioned trying Hellmers at third. No one is taking the positions.

I agree it is very surprising, but if his bat has been so good that they can’t keep him out of the lineup then I somewhat understand. I guess my point is that we all know PM messes with the lineup early in the season to figure out what’s best so it’s just dumb when people start freaking out about stuff like this especially when none of us have been able to see any of them play this year

I mean, at worst, you put Cranford back there rather than going to Bianco right?
I think this is a mental maneuver somehow

Almost nothing more useless than a preseason baseball lineup. Paul is gonna cycle through all of them to find the best one

I think with how bad our offense was last year he’s trying to get better bats in the lineup even if it means sacrificing a little defense. And possibly creating some more competition for Arnold to step things up offensively. I’d assume if it doesn’t work out he’ll just go back to Arnold and Cranford and we’ll just be below average offensively at that position

He's previously joked that if Morgan's arm were healthy he might have the first left handed short stop in the SEC.
He jokes now but if his gut tells him it’s the right call, you best believe it’s gonna happen. That gut is extremely persuasive.

What I think as well. Cranford is a much better infielder. Both are a push at the plate, Bianco has power but at what rate?

Listening to his recent interviews, I believe that is true for 3rd base, that he doesn't have anyone he truly trusts.

At SS, I believe he has a couple people he trusts defensively, but maybe they just aren't giving the offense needed. Meaning, there are guys that are serviceable defensively at SS; but they aren't stars enough defensively to justify sacrificing what they give up at the plate. So if you can put someone there where the defense may be just a little bit lesser than, but gives you more pop and consistency at the plate, then you try them out.

That's my read on it at least. Not saying I agree with it, but that type philosophy should appease all those who bitched the past 2 years of playing someone like Hal Hughes for defense when he sucked at the plate.

Don Mattingly played 3rd base for 18 innings in the majors.

I thought we had a wealth of glove talent at shortstop. If Drew were a hitter I could see it, maybe, but seems awful forced

He may be trying to throw out the slow pitch softball line up until he's comfortable that there are enough functional bats to insert a defensive shortstop.

We have battered fan syndrome. This tinkering to get a little better has not resulted in us being very good offensively, it just brings back bad memories for me. In the past we have tinkered our way from being below average to slightly below average.

Paul likes to do dumb shite sometimes just to remind everyone how much smarter he is than everyone else.

Like when he pinch hit freshman Deichmann who was 0-10 at the plate with no outs and runners on first and second in extra innings vs Kentucky and let him swing away... and then did it again the very next week vs Ole Miss in the exact same situation. Neither worked out but his gut told him it was the right thing to do.

Hughes sucking at the plate was only a problem because everyone else basically sucked too. We had multiple holes in the lineup and looking for big, clutch hits from your 0.200 SS isn’t something any team should be doing.

Agreed.

I appreciate you summing-up what I was trying to say way better than I did.

On a side note: How pumped are you to have Arenado? Geaux Cards!
