#LSU Paul Mainieri tells @OTB_ESPN that Zach Arnold and Drew Bianco will share the duties at short stop early in the season. Mainieri says 10, 15, 20 games, whatever it takes, eventually one will perhaps rise above the other.

Outfield to shortstop doesn’t happen often I don’t think..

Wow. I never would have thought of him at SS considering all of the other names that have been talked about to play there.

So, in the mix at shortstop and third base are:

- Safford
- Thompson
- Hellmers
- Crews
- Arnold
- Cranford
- Bianco
- Maybe others I'm forgetting

He's previously joked that if Morgan's arm were healthy he might have the first left handed short stop in the SEC.

We could almost field an entire lineup of just people getting a shot on the left side of the infield.

He came in as an infielder. I don’t expect him to play much (or at all at SS), but it’s not an unnatural move.

Bianco is a black hole at the plate. There's no way in hell he is good enough at short to cover for a 250 bat. Much less for whatever he puts up that is worse than that.

It’s time for Paul to go. So many damn misses in recruiting have put us in this position. This team will struggle this year.

Project, any idea of what Bianco will look like at SS? I just can't envision it being very good.

Didn't he play infield (maybe SS) in high school? I thought I seemed to recall seeing that when he came to LSU.

Regardless, this has to be the first time in a while I remember feeling this uneasy about the infield defense at a critical spot like SS.

He was a shortstop in HS (but so was almost every non-lefty on the team).

I can't imagine he has the range that someone like Thompson has. I would hope he's had at least a little bit of a body transformation if this is being discussed.

I think he would have had to for sure. It really wouldn't make sense if he hadn't got in better shape. It would most need to be radical, wouldn't it?

I seem to remember him playing 3B his freshman year. Why not play him there if you are looking to get his bat in the lineup?

It’s amazing how many people already know exactly how the team is going to look before seeing anyone play a single inning

I get that.
But you gotta admit hearing Bianco at SS is somewhat shocking....

Depending on if you trust it or not, here are his roster weights, which indicate maybe he has (which I think I heard Mainieri or someone talk in the Fall of Bianco slimming down):

Fr.: 219 lbs
So.: 217 lbs
Jr. (this year): 202 lbs

So he is 15 lbs lighter than a year ago. At those weights, 15 lbs can be a pretty big difference on movement and flexibility.

Bianco is not the long term SS and I don't see any point of trying to get him reps there.

Reminds me of when they tried Bryce catching in 2018.

So for those of us "out of the know", can you provide us a list of these so called "misses" you speak of?
