Student Union had couches and chairs and lots of quiet areas. You could also eat at the food court or go in the theater or ballrooms to watch football.

Lots of people passing through but not as noisy in all areas like the PMAC.

Union was much better atmosphere.

It’s really stupid. My dad and I would go to McDonalds in the union and watch some of the other games going on every game day and it was great to get out of the heat for a bit.

Right, it was an award handed out by Chevrolet, but that was a Loooong time ago, back when the telecast of the game showed the halftime performances of the bands. Must have been the late 1960's. There used to be plaque on Tiger Stadium commemorating it, but I'm not sure if it's still there.
72 or 73. The Chevrolet All-American College TV Band or something very similar to that.

William F. Swor (Marching Band Nick Saban) was Director of Bands back then and was at the top of his profession.

There used to be a big sign over the Tiger Stadium entrance gate we entered that read "Through this gate passes the All-American Golden Band from Tiger Land."

It's probably still there, but I don't know for sure.

BTW, I would really like to see a Southeastern Conference Marching Band Contest at the end of football season with the same D.C.I. (Drum Corps International) Judges using the exact same Caption Scoring Adjudication process that is used in all D.C.I. shows. That's the only way to know how the SEC Bands really rank.....

Keeping the Union open during game days is so much of a hassle that many of you may not understand. The biggest threat is of the liability with having that many people in and around that small of a space, for that amount of time. And let's face it...teen kids are rascals who always find mischief to get into.

The law school used to be open on game days so people could used the bathrooms. People starting trashing the place and that was the end of that.

Lol you aren’t lying, remember tons of my friends getting them in 2011. We use to think that was the biggest BS on game day

Same. But there's a lot of room in between checking IDs of everyone under 40 and handing out MIPs like flyers on the corner of Highland and S Stadium and not letting teens get shitfaced on the Union front steps.

Eta: Haven't tailgated this year. But unless things have changed, the high school looking kids still hang out on the steps.

Coates Hall was also closed on Saturday. People were everywhere peeing in bushes and on side of buildings.

Boomers get malice because they are in charge now and talk about how everything was great but now bad. That’s the boomers fault!!!! The greatest generation set you guys up and flopped.

Boomers are between 59 and 77 years old, with the average being 68. They are not “in charge of everything”. In fact, Most Boomers are now retired.

That being said, I agree with you that’s the current generation is FUBAR and Boomers and Gen X have to take some responsibility for making them selfish, entitled, perpetually offended, low T simps. That we can agree on.

LSU also removed several banks of port a potties from their usual spots a few years back and never replaced them. That hasn’t helped the bathroom situation either.

My daughter is a high school junior (no pics you pervs) and goes to tailgate there every home game. She said these boys get piss drunk and get in fights every week. They can't handle their alcohol. I agree that a cop or two patrolling right there would solve a lot of issues.

We pass through there on the way to the stadium, and can confirm that the front of the Union is packed with hundreds of high school kids that completely trash the grounds out front.

There were a few cops on bikes checking bags, but they were completely outnumbered by the hundreds of obnoxious douchebag teens.

It's completely ridiculous that LSU can't provide proper security at the Union on gameday. It's definitely a great place to hang for a short rest, grab some food, catch a game, and use the restroom.

Just did the Ole Miss road trip, and they had an amazing amount of security in and around their renovated Union. And even though it was packed, all fans there were certainly more respectful of the property and of others... something severely lacking in front of the LSU Union.

Not what the thread was originally about but since mentioned - The only National Championship for college marching bands:

Chevrolet (GM) sponsored the competition during the 1970 season, with the winner to perform at the halftime of the East-West Shrine Game in Oakland, CA on January 2. LSU played in the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day evening (January 1). A few hours later the band packed up and took a chartered flight across country from Miami to SF. Arriving at the E-W game by noon kickoff, the band then performed a completely different nationally-televised halftime show, within 24 hours on opposite edges of the continent. The broadcast is on YouTube with the performance beginning at 3:00 mark. The opening Fight/March of American hymns is a classic drill.

I haven’t been to a game yet this year so I’m going off of last year’s experience but if it’s the same, going to the pmac is nice. You can sit and watch the game on the big screen. What aggravates me is when the band comes in they turn off the game. Why not leave the game on and mute the sound?

“ Law school ….People starting trashing the place and that was the end of that”

That is an understatement…. Became regular for idiots to plug up toilets and drains and run water flooding the entire downstairs floor.. then they closed the doors and people would go down to closed doors and piss in corner.. they had to hose it down every time after games…

Law school paid for all that nonsense but finally said screw this..

To bad people can not act right.. union was having similar idiot problems.
