another very nice person, good coach that his refusal to change terminated him.

Didn't know nothin bout coachin; game past him by; glad we go rid of him; we're better off with Archer and Hallman; reminds me of Miles - Signed tRant.

Cholly never fared well against Ole Miss or Bamma though.

True but it wasn't against the Tennessee Volunteers. Charles McClendon never defeated Tennessee once in his entire tenure.

What on Earth does that have to do with anything?

Besides,McClendon beat Tennessee and Bill Battle,20-10 in 1974.

That was my first thought when I saw this photo.

You're wrong. I watched LSU beat Tennessee in Tiger Stadium on October 12, 1974. It was the second LSU win over Tennessee ever and the first one since 1933.

That having been said Bear Bryant never defeated a Notre Dame or Texas team. So what's your point?

I thought it was ironic that they gave him a maroon colored Cadillac at that game

I was at the game - I thought it was a gold Caddy

I hope to generate an understanding in this group that though Tennessee is polite and respectful like the Sewanee Tigers of old (purple & gold colors are Sewanee) this opponent never loses to LSU. Mistakes are certain doom in this opponents den. I don't give a damn who likes it. I WANT THE VICTORY

I was there. I was also at his very last game in the Tangerine (now Citrus) Bowl. I grew up with him as the coach. He was the coach when I started going to the games in 1966 as an 8 yr. old.

My dad went to UK with Cholly Mac.

He was always nice to me when I was a kid.

RIP Coach!

I was there from 1971-75. In those four seasons the Tigers went 5-2, 7-0, 6-1 and 5-1 in Tiger Stadium. That's 23-4 at home, and lots of enjoyable memories. Needless to say 2 of the losses were to *gasp* Bama!

One win in 1972 was particularly notable: a 35-7 dismantling of a Shug Jordan coached Auburn team which finished 10-1 and were Top 5. Bert Jones was stellar that night. I believe that game, and the 48-7 annihilation of Virginia Tech in 2007, were the best played games in LSU history.

Always a Tiger. Cholly Mac was LSU's greatest modern coach and truly deserves a statue outside Tiger Stadium, to honor his memory and his many achievements!
