So Cholly Mac has lost control of Tiger Stadium being over built and crowd leaving early!
Loved him, went to Highland school and Glasgow with his son.

My three favorite games were Notre Dame (Bert Jones got his first official start on this one), Ole Miss (we all know the story of Bert Jones' passing and the clock), and Southern Cal in 79 which we would have won if not for the refs screwing up a call in the last minutes of the fourth quarter (Ensminger and Woodley were the QBs). I always like McClendon and like some others grew up with him. However, he was too loyal to his assistants, who really did not do him a whole hell of a lot of favors.

Beat Ole Miss every year I was there 4 years in a row in the 70's. So actually he did fare well vs Ole Miss.

One win in 1972 was particularly notable: a 35-7 dismantling of a Shug Jordan coached Auburn team which finished 10-1 and were Top 5. Bert Jones was stellar that night. I believe that game, and the 48-7 annihilation of Virginia Tech in 2007, were the best played games in LSU history.
That '72 Auburn team became famous by beating Bama 17-16 on 2 4th quarter punt blocks returned for TDs. They went on the neat Colorado 24-3 in the Gator Bowl.

I was there. I was also at his very last game in the Tangerine (now Citrus) Bowl.
Remember the Tangerine Bowl score?
LSU- 34
Wake Forest- 10
Remember talking to a very young and just hired by WWL Jim Henderson down on the sidelines after halftime...........

I was there but I swore it was a gold Cadillac. But I was a youngster then.

It was Maroon. They drove it out on the field after the game and Mac got in and drove off.

My favorite quote from Coach Mac while he cleaned out his office; “Where are all those people that said ‘help Mac pack?’..”

Cholly never fared well against Ole Miss
9-8-1 against Ole Miss. most of those losses coming in the 60s (6 losses and 1 tie) on the tail end of a great run by Ole Miss under coach Johnny Vaught. Vaught only lost to LSU 7 times in that stretch plus 2 ties. Vaught has a winning record against every single LSU coach he faced, including Paul Dietzel.
