Truth is, if the kids signed a revenue deal with Ole Miss and got up front money and the contract was specific with details of what the money was tied to, they should pay the money back.
They is no money to pay back. There was an early termination clause in their contracts that Ole Miss wants to enforce. Ole Miss is seeking damages for breach of contract, not money they paid out to these two players.

I would hope the same for LSU if a player wants to leave and signs a revenue sharing deal. What they shouldn’t be required to do is stay, if the coach they want to play for leaves.
While I kind of agree, I also think OM is opening up a can of worms that no other school wants opened. They're really aiming to the most disliked school in the country.

I’m no lawyer but just a breach of contract with no money exchanged 10 days after signing sounds kind of like a non compete after your whole upper management just got let go and replaced with a new group. I’m sure there are many things out there that could be used as exceptions for the breach. Not liking new hires to the staff, left money. Idk. Seems like there are a lot of reasons that this wouldn’t hold up in this particular situation.

This. Take off the purple and gold glasses.
Players should be held accountable for contracts they sign.
We literally turned down getting Demond Williams because we weren't going to pay a 4 mill buyout.

Legally yes. And I agree overall it’s weird on LsUs part but in practicality it’s like the Billy Donovan Orlando magic situation. He signed a contract had a press conference and then got cold feet and the magic let him go without forcing the issue.
The kids had been paid no money same as Donovan. They just realized OM had been pulling the wool over their eyes on their worth.
OM is forcing the issue because they are ate up with it. Not necessarily wrong and frankly I get standing on principle but if he was going to wake forest they would not be doing this.

Good luck with signing 5 stars after that stunt.

I think everyone wants the can to be opened.
I just don’t think anyone else is willing to take the PR and recruiting hit to do so.
OM is in that special place of crazy ex girlfriend where they know keying your car may get them in jail but it’s worth it to them.

This is typical. Bunch of Ikeiss trial lawyers leading a bunch of butt hurt alumni. I am convinced God had Ole Miss grads in mind when the verse was written about cutting your nose of to spite your face. Growing up around these people they would burn their own house down if they thought it would hurt someone they think wronged them. This is Mississippi Mentality at it’s finest!

Ole Miss should try to recoup their money. That said it's petty and LSU should absolutely cover this for the players and just make Ole Piss look more desperate than they already do.
It would also go a long way in recruiting to show players that we have your back.

Waiting for the claude run on the actual petition, seems like liquidated damages penalty for rolling out, not a return of monies paid or advanced. Dunno about MS laws on sufficiency or reasonableness of liquidated damages. Some states frown on them. we dont have a salary cap or a CBA to guide us. As most people say, a contract is a contract. If MS has a bad take on LDs, some theory of equitable adjustment or other defect in the quantum of liquidated damages being either unreasonable oe or excessive coukd be effective. Maybe they will file an injunction just before the game to enjoin them from playing, citing irreparable harm of playing againat the team they left, not compensible in dollars, etc. Could be that LSU considered it in advanceand are either letting them twist a bit to show their petty asses or maybe kids were comped with the money in mind and they are going to take a shot in court, or pay them in frozen corn dogs.

Here's the thing, unless things have changed, you can't sign NIL contracts that tie a player to a school or anything performance based. Also, I'm still under the impression that that money isn't coming through the school, possibly an NIL fund, and it should have cleared the NIL clearinghouse to make sure it wasn't money for nothing, that it's tied to actual marketing. If these guys are supposed to be paid for appearances et al and aren't making them, then yea, they should be in breach of contract.
To the other point, if this contract they are apparently breaking is from the profit sharing portion of the pot, the Ole Miss should really jist be out of luck if they advanced any more money than what should be for a one year term, amd in the case of a buyout, I say frick 'em. Sign these kids to one year deals. I'm absolutely sure there's language in there to protect the schools if the player is a bust after one year.

The players were not paid one single dime. What Ole Miss is asking for in the lawsuit is more in the terms of a fine for leaving the program. The lawyers will probably plea in terms that It is an illegal penalty to even be written.

Not how I’m reading it. Sounds there was no money exchanged hands and it was the revenue shares. Also seems that it was signed while Their season was still active and the new coaching staff wasn’t in place or named yet. I’m sure there were 1000s if not millions of reasons they left, however in this instance , I could see it being argued they were pressured into signing and once the smoke settled and they saw the replacement coaches, them
Staying at OM wasn’t in tenor best interest for their future.

I would also be curious if the supposed leak of new guys rev share agreements being leaked in the locker room was true

Did any other players leave after signing these agreements? If so, are they suing them? If not, is this selective enforcement?

These players need to say they a brain tumor. Ole Miss will cut them loose with quickness ala Brett Harris.
