This is about a contract between two players and Ole Miss/NIL. Players have no contract with the school. LSU is involved but not the liable parties.
The problem for LSU is if someone promised to buyout the contract for them and did not.

I didn't see that anywhere, and Ole Miss didn't list any payments being issued in the timelines they released.
I think, ultimately, this will lead to players becoming employees, otherwise, these issues will keep cropping up.
I can't see a buyout being viable if the player received no consideration.
Also, I can't see both players/LSU simply not just paying the buyouts if it's as cut and dry as Ole Miss is alleging.

We have no idea if it was a valid contract or if it was signed under duress etc. Pete shooting his mouth off to players wanting to leave that they’d be vilified in Oxford was moronic.

Unless I’m misunderstanding this, it would almost certainly be moved to federal court; it qualifies for the amount and the fact that the defendants are currently residing in Louisiana.

1. I can’t imagine making them sign contract days before the semifinals finals didn’t come with a few threats: Duress
2. 950k in buyouts seems pretty high. most states don’t allow punitive buyouts.

No it’s buyout. Not money back. No $ was received. This isn’t about paying it back this is about early termination. Which is why it’s not cut and dry because they aren’t employees.

The players will almost certainly challenge that they were forced to sign under duress.
A lot of folks are missing the point.
This isn't about whether the contract was voided, it is about whether the contract was legal to begin with.
If the precedent is set that it wasn't, that's another step towards players becoming employees, which I believe will happen eventually anyways.

Multiple defenses not just duress such as the environment changing immediately after, etc..
Foot in mouth moment for Ole Miss
And for everyone saying they should just pay it..
With what money? They didnt receive any from that contract

Don’t be surprised if at the end, the courts rule that anyone getting rev share from the university is indeed an employee.

No. What he's saying might have truth to it because around this time it was said they were lying players to get them to sign contracts so they couldn't go with Lane to LSU. This is far more believable and maybe it has legs especially with all the Chambliss/Lacy stuff to LSU until Ole Miss signed them. Around that time I saw things similar where they were telling players you better sign with Ole Miss or an or else attitude. Would be funny if they had a claim here and counter sued Ole Miss. Not sure how that would hold up but would be funny nonetheless.

It’s in Mississippi court so it’s gonna be ruled in their favor but that doesn’t change the fact they aren’t employees.

Oh yea it’s getting removed, but the problem with that is the federal courthouse is about two blocks off the square in Oxford.
