Now that defenses have figured how to stop JD, the problem is Denbrock.

If defenses are going to mush rush 3, spy 1, and drop 7 Denbrock HAS to be patient with the run, especially between the tackles. Stick to it and it will force defenses to adjust which will play right into JD’s hands.

Jayden Daniels had over 200 yards passing against the number 1 defense in the country and the team outgained them.
I think we are going to be ok. Chill relax mellow

Denbrock looked fine when Nuss was in the game

Yes, this is the first time defenses have ever figured out how to account for a QB that can run.

If JD can’t audible out of an 8 man front and throw a quick slant to an uncovered receiver, the problem is not Denbrock. The problem is JD not having the ability or authority(for whatever reason) to make a quick decision and call the audible. He has a hard enough time making the decision to throw to a guy that’s covered.

O put up a lot yards on that stingy GA D. They will be fine. If we can have a RB emerge, plus the trio of Anderson, Boutte and Nabors….watch out.

Not sure if that is true but I understand why it might look that way.

I actually agree the solution is aa better running game plan. Not only patients for the play calling but the ball carriers need to be patient when hitting holes. The apparent hole may close and the one you are supposed to hit opens suddenly, patients with the play call as a running back can pay off many times.

The problem becomes our RB and IOL talent
Denbrock wants to run but it was only effective last year if JD was running well.

We don’t put enough stress on the defense when they drop and Daniels never gets comfortable finding the soft spots. Daniels needs to get better throwing on the run to help with this. Rolling him out and flooding zones with routes would be a great way to make him more effective when defenses play drop coverage. It forces defenders in the stressed zones to think and have to read multiple guys, creating openings. It also gives Daniels a better opportunity to run vs a zone. We don’t run this nearly enough.
One positive- not every team is able to play drop coverage well. Most college teams don’t play a ton of zone, so they often don’t execute it that well. Remember the beginning of the Georgia game? They went away from drop coverage after two drives of us moving the ball with little trouble. Arnett at State refuses to play anything but aggressive man. Odom was the best at drop zone because that’s his base D, but he’s gone now.

We came into the season with 4 RBs in the rotation.
Our #1 RB had a knee injury against Arkansas, didn’t play against UAB or A&M, and was limited against Georgia.
Another got hurt against New Mexico, and then had a season-ending injury against Arkansas.
One of the two guys left had 2 fumbles on 9 carries against UAB.
I think any conversation about our rushing game down the stretch has to acknowledge the personnel/injury issues. Our RB group had a respectable average on the year, but that doesn’t tell the whole story when you look at the RB group at the end of the season.

IOL talent won’t be an issue next season if Martinez or someone from the portal takes over at C. As long as Dellinger is healthy and Heard is as ready as some think, then we will have a good mix of talent and experience to man the interior.

How does this make Denbrock a “problem?”

We run a ton of zone blocking plays and our RBs almost never cut it back. Some the Achane killed us with over and over.
