Well, when considering the low quality source, I wouldn't worry about this ranking. We can use junk like this for bulletin board material.

Geaux Tigers!

I’m not reading BS like that, when I start reading at number 40 and I see Fresno, I pretty much stop

We are wayyyyy better than that
We have a ton of talent on this team and yes the coaching staff has to find their way and gel, but this is a significant upgrade of a staff

Seriously, Phil must’ve just forgot about us

Every offseason we do this. If a publication ranks us too high, we love them, too low and they are BS.

This is how they think the rankings will be at the end of the season.

We were saying the same thing this time last season when we said how bad publications suck for picking us 7-5.

Fact is we are a mid-level SEC team this year. 7 wins are expected. 8 are. possible. So is 6–ole miss. But 7 wins for sec team is top 40. Man is a pinhead

We are 11-12 the last 2 years. Not going to get much love from the media until we start winning games. Simple fact.

Lsu was 11-12 the last two seasons

If we were any other team besides the one you root for you wouldn’t bat and eye at this prediction

There aren’t many rosters in the SEC that have the talent we have

I don’t understand why people keep saying this? Almost Every team in the sec can point out good players throughout there defense and offense. It’s a damn tough league and many of the teams are equally as talented. We’re not as deep as we have been in the past.

Phil Steele

The guy has a great speaking voice and is very believable with his predictions. With that said, Here's a few of last seasons predictions by Phil. Seems you'd get just as good or better predictions from almost anyone.

National Champion: Oklahoma Sooners----finished 3rd in the Big 12
Most Improved: Penn State Nittany Lions---finished 4th in Big 10 east
Heisman Trophy winner: Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler--was benched
Surprise team of the year: Washington Huskies---finished 5 in pac 12 north

But the only problem is that the teams we play are pretty damn talented too .
Also, the teams we play that are toss ups have been in the same offense and/or defense for multiple years. We went heavy portal and that always hurts continuity. I guess it doesn’t matter though because we have a new staff anyway though

This one of one of the worst takes I've seen in a while on here

People cant seriously expect at least 9-3 in year 1 and think if we do worse it's the coach's fault. If it happens, awesome, but this is still very much a rebuild in case you didnt notice from how many guys we've taken in the portal alone. Our defensive backfield is basically rent-a-players from everywhere. We're trying to fix an OL with portal players from FIU and FCS as well as a true freshman.

We're absolutely going to have some growing pains.

I mean 7-5 isn’t really top 40 lol

I’ll put my head in a chopping block here. No way in hell we lose 5 games this year. Way too much talent on the defense alone!

Steele only has 3 SEC teams in the top 25 and those 3 are ranked in the top 9.

I could care less about the other teams in the SEC but that should tell you all you need to know about Steele.

That is probably true. But it is also incredibly lazy to not think LSU, with a new coaching staff, isn't at least a top 40 team. Not top 10? Sure. Not top 20? ok. But not top 40?

There is no question LSU has lost a lot of the "benefit of the doubt" with their performances the last two seasons. But I don't know if national reporters fully realize just how bad of a coach Orgeron was. He was always a bad HC. It just that from 17-19 he was smart enough to stay (mostly) out of the way with respect to the actual schemes and on-field approach. The two times he didn't, 2017 vs. Troy and beginning in 2020 when he tried to implement HIS defense were complete disasters.

While this team may not be as talented at the 2019 group there are still many good players. Now the biggest thing that was holding the 20-21 teams back from success is gone. THAT alone makes this at least a top 40 team.
