It's ridiculous.

We need to go back to BCS where teams had to work there arse off to make it not just get a pass. Take for example jmu and Tulane they were not playoff level contender but they were allowed to make it anyway. I know they won there confrence but some playoffs in sports aren't meant to be this expansive.

That's just my take on it.

Sadly, it is all about the money. It is not about competition, or any other element. It is about GREED in the two major conferences.

Lets look at the men's baseball. Twelve teams from the SEC. Don't get me wrong. I am an LSU fan. I will admit the SEC is by far the strongest and most competitive conference. BUT, BUT, BUT, no way in hell you can argue a team in the bottom tier of their conference deserves any further recognition or extension on their season. Same holds true for any other sport. The two biggest conferences want to be the only pigs filling up the trough.

Sadly, the NCAA has done a crap job over the past many years as it relates to everything. Now it is like trying to herd a bunch of cats. Greed will continue to rule the day.

Maybe once college athletics is further diluted the NCAA and two major conferences will realize a smaller pool for post season competition is better in every aspect.

BCS computers have been fairly accurate on their picks too the last few seasons. They are just used for fun now.
I can accept a 24 team playoff if the conference championship games go away.

Greed is going to chip away at everything good in college football until the whole thing collapses.

They keep trying to squeeze a little more profit margin out of it, and it will eventually make the whole thing collapse and we’ll lose everything.

People will eventually lose interest, and that’s when the money starts disappearing.

Greed ruins everything.

I don't think we should go back to the BCS with just 2 teams making a championship game. I like a playoff after a regular season...just like every other sport has.

That said, 24 teams is far too many and it does nothing but dilute the regular season and the playoffs themselves. Sadly, we the fans have no say. These decision are made SOLEY at the urging of the media/TV networks with the approval of the conferences. More playoff games = more money the conferences can get for the broadcast rights.

It's not a problem limited to college football. Just about every sport is doing this. Over the last 10 years or so every pro sport has needlessly increased the number of playoff participants too.

I personally would like to see them separated for playoffs. My choice would be 16 team power 4 playoff and 16 team group of 5 playoff.

It really doesn’t make a ton of sense competition wise to have a 120+ team league with almost 3/4 of the teams having no real shot a winning a championship.

My biggest reason for wanting a 24 team playoff is maybe it will help with the December Gap between good games, help slowing down OPT outs and emiminate some of the lower gasrbage bowl games.

you would have a point if it wasnt for ole miss and Fresno state winning national championships after barely getting in.

as far as football, whats the difference. the teams that arent good enough to be there will lose and you will still have the same teams left in the end as you would if only 12 got in

A lot of teams were there that didn't belong. Tulane and JMU both got in because the ACC champ sucked. There were P4 teams that also had no business being there.

They should cut it to 6 or 8 teams and have minimum standards.

You can fix this by fixing the schedule, no need to expand to 24 to do that. I couldn’t care less about having meaningless bowl games, if I don’t care I won’t watch. No sweat off my back.

I still haven’t heard a good argument for 24 teams when you consider how it waters down the regular season. I’m open to changing my mind, someone play devils advocate at least.

U think teams are paying 40 million to go to a bowl game? We need more Texas bowls instead of playoff games. Ok

Someone always wins their conference. Be happy with the conference trophy. Not worthy of a playoff spot. Or form your own playoff and play for a mini trophy like Division II.

What do you mean by collapse?
It hasn't already collapsed?
When does that happen and be specific with details.
Not saying you are wrong but what event will happen before it collapses in your eyes.

I'd be fine with 8 or the current 12, but anything above 12 is dumb. You can't tell me the 24th ranked team has a shot to run the gambit and win it all. No way that ever happens.
