I’ll play devils advocate. How far do yall think some of Les Miles teams could have gone had we had a 12 or 24 team playoff?

help slowing down OPT outs

How will adding MORE games slow down opt outs? That's just more chances to get hurt before the draft.

BUT, BUT, BUT, no way in hell you can argue a team in the bottom tier of their conference deserves any further recognition or extension on their season.

Good analysis - thanks for posting. Quick add-on that I mention when people refer to “meaningless bowl games”. While a NY6 Bowl, the Fiesta was last to pick and took Burrow’s LSU vs UCF. Your point about swagger carrying over to the following season cannot be exemplified better than Burrow taking a huge shot but running over to UCF’s sideline to jaw at the defender. That game was not meaningless to him and his teammates saw his fire. The following season has been described as the greatest college football season in history.

Everyone agrees that it is dumb, fake, and gay. No one disputes this.

I’m concerned about player safety. I don’t think it’s a good idea to have 18-19 year olds playing 15, maybe 16 games in a season. I know that only affects the top couple of teams, but I think we’re going to see more CTE cases in these athletes.
I think the 4-team format was fine. Eliminate the conference championship games. Make the regular season important-every game should be importent.

BCS bowl system was great! It made those bowls great, and it still kept non-BCS bowls relevant.

The NCAA Playoffs for CFB will not make sense until they assign conferences that compete for the National Championship.

From there you create a conference championship to national championship bracket, the same way all sports have worked forever.

I cant lie, im all for a 32 team field no byes. Playoffs are 10x more interesting than meaningless bowl games. Yes a lower seed will most likely never win it but for a 17 or lower seed to advance one game and make the final 16 is prestige imo. Playoffs is golden for football imo. At the same time if your not in the final 32, no playoffs, no bowl game. Thats it, 32 teams total. This is way less teams than the bs bowl system in place.

There should only be 4 conferences in CFB.

You either do a top 2 from the conference championship (winner gets a bye) or a top 4 conference championship. Every year alternate which conferences play each other in opening round.

National and Conference Championship weekend should start with Conference Championship playoff.

It doesn't need to be difficult.

I’m sure there an AI algo that can be put together to rate the 8 best teams in the country based on pre set factors. Just do that and get rid of the human element.

Will this antitrust lawsuit/salary cap actually be enforceable? Seems like that would change everything for teams and the playoffs.

Top 4 or 6 is my preference. I like a balance between keeping the regular season meaningful with trying to get a legit champion.

As much as I think every player deserves to play for a national championship… unfortunately including the mid majors last year made for some very uncompetitive games. They need to figure out how to balance that.

It should be 12 teams max.

With 24 teams, you could honestly go 8-4 with the right schedule and get in.
