Tyrann was a completely average athletically. 4.5 40 and a 34” very at 5’9 is pretty unspectacular.

I have an Arnold Miller game helmet, It’s one of my most cherished pieces of memorabilia. I think he’s a 1st team alltime special teams player at LSU, he had an incredible niche for blocking kicks.

Honey badger. Period.
The question was most athletic, not most instinctive, for which he is undoubtedly the very best ever.

But when you’re that good and that accurate when it comes to understanding football and anticipating you makeup for those split seconds he didn’t have in raw speed. A 4.5 player can play like a 4.3 guy during game situations and that’s what The Honey Badger did.

But athleticism isn’t just speed. Another great example is Corey Webster, he cant run like some of our corners, take a track guy like Chris Cummings for example, but Webster had much better hips, balance, strength and hand eye coordination. It’s not speed only when you’re talking about athleticism.

but he has the “it” thing in football.
That “it” was/is football iq and instincts. Don’t get me wrong. He’s one of the best safeties in the NFL so he’s a word class athlete. But he doesn’t run faster than his peers, he isn’t stronger than them, he doesn’t jump higher than them and he isn’t bigger than them. He wins the battles because he’s smarter and he wants it more.
He’s like Burrow. He’s a freak competitor but he’s not a freak athlete.

4.5, 40 isn’t even bad for a safety. I think because he was mostly a corner here fans think of him in those terms about his 40 but 4.5 is plenty for what he is as a player.

Curly didn’t start coaching until 91. Mike Archer didn’t put Kenny on the field.

I was going to say Chad Jones, one of the goats two sport guys at LSU

Another on the current team that won't get consideration because he's an OL is Dare Rosenthal. If he trains well for the combine in a couple of years(hopefully) he could possibly break 5 seconds in the 40.
Freakishly athletic" means athletic for their frame/size in my book. Dare certainly does/can qualify.
Faneca deserves a mention. When Roaf (LA Tech, Saints) is being marveled at for running a 5.0 40yd, Faneca could have smoked him.
Agree wholeheartedly with the Kitchen mentions. I'll add Eddie Kennison to that. While it is hard to compare over generations and eras, for his time Kennison could do so much with his upper body while still flying with his lower body. It was indeed freakish to see all this movement above the hips while he never broke stride or lost a step.
