William Abb Cannon - fast as Fournette strong as a bull, set state record in shot and yd dash. He played TE in the pros.

quote:nobody would say that a-hole. He did run a 9.6 yd dash. He would crush your hand when you shook it. His 100 would be about a 10.1-.2. And he was STRONG. He worked out with Gayle Hatch at Alvin Roy’s. They trained on everything. they were so far ahead of everone else.
before someone claims Cannon ran a 9.5 100m
Strength training
During the 1950s, Hatch started working with Alvin Roy in his strength program for high level athletes. Their students included Billy Cannon, Jimmy Taylor, and Bob Pettit. [5]
After Roy retired, Hatch took over and expanded the Olympic Weightlifting program. “When Alvin got ready to sell his club in 1979, he told the group of owners that if they wanted to keep the strength and conditioning program going, then they should talk to Gayle Hatch,” Hatch, said. “They talked to me, and I ended up becoming the manager and strength coach, and I also added Olympic weightlifting to the program, which was the first Olympic-style weightlifting program in a commercial gym.”[6]

Searched through the first few pages, and did not see Eric andolsek or Michael Brooks...If we go even older, Joe LaBruzzo, Tommy Casanova, Jim Taylor, Charles Alexander all come to mind from from the stories I've heard from old coonasses!

A three time all-American, three time Pro-Bowl performer and All-Pro who played both ways and he’s still underrated among LSUs alltime greats lol.

These names are "vintage" from the late 70's to early 80's but Jay Blass was NO Player of the year in baseball, Bob Lane was State in 2 sports, Kent Nicar was drafted by the Yankees, Eric Martin was an incredible b-ball player, Shawn Burks held the state javelin record and Orlando McDaniel and Efrem Coley were on the national record setting 880 relay team. Jim Smith,, the head baseball coach and equipment manager would say on the way out to football practice, pointing at football players, "there's my centerfielder, there's my shortstop, there's my catcher, there's my pitcher"!

Nobody wants to hear the name because he is so unpopular, but Josh Booty was No. 1 pick in MLB, all -SEC QB and played in the NFL. Talented golfer.

I don't know why you clarify with "supposedly" and "which may be true." By all accounts he ran a hand timed 9.6 100yd.
#1) I’m the one who defended Cannon earlier in the thread and said he could play on todays LSU team.
#2) I said “it may be true” that he ran a 9.5. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit. However, there is no proof it ever happened. Even in your rebuttal you said “he ran a 9.6” and that it was “hand timed” (not exactly the most precise way to time a run).
All of that being said, do I think he could have run a 9.5 Sure. It might be true. He might have run a 9.4, he might have run a 9.7. Either way he was fast - really fast (especially for a man his size).

Todd kinchen was a freak athlete. Witnessed it first hand at a basketball camp. His coach was there and said he was by far the best athlete he ever coached.

Michael Brooks. Dude flipped his Suzuki Samurai over on its side in the Popeyes parking lot. Got out and flipped it back upright and carried on.

quote:Brian was no slouch either. I may get some of the details wrong on this, but you'll get the gist. Our fraternity sent him to the sweepstakes track event, as athletes were allowed to participate in events if the event was not their scholarship sport. So Brian proceeds to win every event he was entered in, set records in the shot and hurdles, and had more points on his own than any other team combined. Or, something like that. Also the best golfer I have ever played with.
