re: Missing Skenes here in Austin would be similar to missing the opportunity to see Joe in 19

The thing that impressed me the most about Skenes wasn't his velocity, it was his accuracy. He was absolutely painting the corners in his first start.

If he does or comes remotely close to what, Lloyd Peever accomplished in 1992 that would be a fantastic season. No pitcher has done that at LSU.

posted a 14–0 win–loss record, a 1.98 ERA, three complete games and a shutout in 17 appearances (15 starts). In 104.2 innings, he allowed only 67 hits and 20 walks, while striking out 116 batters. His campaign, dubbed "one of the best individual seasons ever in college baseball," earned him numerous honors and considerable recognition. He was named Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, earned All-American selections by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Baseball America, was voted first team all-Southeastern Conference, earned a selection to the SEC all-tournament team and was twice named National Player of the Week. He was also a Golden Spikes Award finalist.
Skenes got a long way to go

Good post.
IMO, when discussing all-time great pitchers I think of it as:
1 Season: Peever
2 Seasons: Nola ('13 and '14)
Career: Lange or Ben
I also think it's time to include Crews in GOAT discussions.

Frick the trolls. Some people aren't happy unless they know they make everyone miserable. It's not even fun to be on TD anymore.

That was my point. I, for one, saw Peever multiple times in ‘92 and it was unbelievable. Before the dead bat era too.
Peever is the measuring stick for a single season as I mentioned. Those games were electric when he pitched.

Missing seeing the greatest athlete in LSU history is like missing the opportunity to miss the 200th best athlete in LSU history? Hmmmmmm And 200 is a stretch at the moment.
Skenes and Crews may be that special. Hell Morgan is no slouch.

Todd walker says “hi”.

You’ll never get off that easy on this site, just say can’t wait to see Him pitch. Once you make an opinion, statement, suggestion, or comparison it unleashes to Know it Alls no matter the subject. Matter of fact there are some that even think they’re in the Top 200 athletes of all time. Enjoy yourself !!

It doesn't bother me one way or the other. The best way to approach TD is like anything else in life.
Only 50% of people know what the hell they are talking about, so you just have to weed through the idiots to get to the people worth conversing with.

None of us really knew what Joe was until we got about four games into that season. People can say what they want about all of this, but it took time for everyone to believe what they were seeing
Part of that was becuase none of us thought LSU could ever come close to having an offense like that.
But the second half of the UTex game was when I thought, damn, this is something special. Our offense just kept throwing haymaker after haymaker on the road.

We have a pitcher and a position player on this team that both have the tools to have one of the best seasons in LSU history.
We are 4 games in. Let's stick to that line for now and enjoy how this goes.

Thinking about the Friday night SEC atmosphere in Alex Box with Skenes on the bump makes it wiggle a bit.
Never got to see Peever but have heard the stories from some Guys that played with him/against/watched him over the years and wish I could have seen it. Might not be a popular opinion but IMO a dominant pitching performance is one of the most exciting things to watch in sports.

Missing Joe Burrow is like missing J.C. in Jerusalem

Skenes has shown that before he came to LSU. So I agree with what you’re saying. Now to say that he is better than any other, I’m not going there. For someone like him (and all pitchers really) the measuring stick is Lloyd Peever. If he does or comes remotely close to what, Lloyd Peever accomplished in 1992 that would be a fantastic season. No pitcher has done that at LSU.
One hit wonder Peever? Single season accomplishments that’s hard to beat. Overall Peever couldn’t hold Nola’s jock.

I'm not sure about best athlete stuff. Skeenes could be the best pro pitcher to come out of Lsu...

The entire argument over "best athlete" in this thread was a dude on the first page trolling/looking for an argument. OP didn't say anything about best athlete. He actually made a really good point that Skenes is potentially a once in generation player and seeing him in person is worth missing a day of work.
Again, not trying to speak for OP but annoys the hell out of me when one dude is either too narrow minded to see the similarities or is just looking to start shite.
You can take OP's post and apply the logic to the entire team. That this team has that same feeling the 2019 team gave us.

Oh come on man, join the fun and optimism going on around our beloved baseball team.
We have arguably one of the most talented rosters “LSU” has ever had. Will we win a Championship? Who knows. But what we do know is that we have the talent to play and beat anyone. We haven’t been here in a while I don’t think.
For that I’m Excite.

Joey B is hands down the most decorated Tiger ever…. I understand your athletic comparison. A fair statement is him and Shaq are quite possibly the two greatest at their positions that college sports have ever seen.
