That's a good rule of thumb.

Good post.

Absolutely true.

I have gone through some very bad depression.

To me, the only thing to do is to keep moving, even if it is tiny steps. I would make a list. Sometimes the first thing would be "turn on computer." Sometimes that is the only thing I could get done for an hour. It was that bad. But getting that done and scratching it off the list got me moving.

Do not stop moving, doing something, anything, if you are depressed.

That's my personal take.

Also, weed is VERY bad for mental health issues

There’s not an evidence base to support this stance. It’s very bad in schizophrenia but for run of the mill depression and anxiety the data is very mixed. It seems to help some while not helping/harming others.

No bueno for me. Weed in any form makes my anxiety/panic attacks go from 0-100.

In my personal experiences, depression is basically when you stop looking forward to things (or anything) that you used to look forward to – coffee in the morning, football, a trip you have planned, etc.

I've definitely been there and wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Straight to the Psychiatrist so they can prescribe some Valium. Screw getting to the bottom line and fixing the issues.

Just getting help period. Lots of guys either tell themselves or hear from other guys to just buck up and get over it. Many times, its not that easy.

I agree that benzos just make anxiety and depression worse in the long run. Should only be prescribed in extreme cases and for a short amount of time.

If a tiger walks into your backyard, anxiety is considerably more useful than mindfulness. The problem is when the alarm keeps going off and there isn't a tiger.

The problem is modern man doesn't have enough tigers, so we internalize minor inconveniences as threats, when even 100 years ago these things wouldn't even register because people were just trying to stay alive each day. These people didn't even have penicillin. Now we sit around and ponder every aspect of our lives and create tigers where they don't exist.

Thank you. Many who need this information may never speak up. Thanks for bringing some light to it.

is that actually common though? have you heard from other guys to buck up and get over it? have you told that to other guys? i'm in arguably one of the most alpha male dominated lines of work there is, and the overwhelming message both officially and informally among the bros is "get help if you need help" and "call me any time day or night if you need something". no one has ever told me to buck up and get over it when i've been going through it. the opposite in fact.

this concept of "men are emotionally detached and wont get help and stigmatize help and shame each other for seeking help" is all feminism bullshite messaging because we as men dont give or receive help in the way women do and the want they WANT us to.

Here's an idea: Provide your credentials or frick off.

For the record, and as any informed practitioner would readily note, many therapists hold master's-level training. A doctorate is not requisite for mental health counseling.

I would never go to a therapist unless it was a male. Women should only go to female therapist also.
