re: Mainieri says he underestimated the strength of the conference these days

Whoever thought hiring Maineri at South Carolina is a good idea needs to be fired asap
normally I would bash on this but I totally agree. It is almost as bad as if someone in SEC hired Les Miles. He is way behind in the current landscape of college athletics and training.

Forgot about that too in my portal talk. Texas is at the top of the league right now and they lost 2/3 to OU.
It's gotta look pretty intimidating to Mainieri.
In the end, he has to hit it out the park in the portal this offseason or next season wont be any real different to this year for him. South Carolina hasnt recruited high school guys well enough to compete.

I’ll never forgive Paul for making me watch 100+ Hal Hughes games

he always looked checked out to me

My cousin told me that as well. The thought of coming back and building up 1 or 2 more runs at Omaha drove him to this, but the stress or anxiety probably overwhelmed him fast. He needs to re-retire, enjoy his wonderful wife and family, and play an absolute shite load of golf. That’s happiness!

They kind of need to take the Florida State/UConn approach. Link Jarrett uses every smaller conference school in Florida essentially as a feeder program for FSU. UConn does something similar but with like D3 schools in the Northeast.
There are enough players in the Carolinas that make it to smaller schools and then blow up that they should be able to get a decent portal crop each year.

he underestimated us when he was here too at the end

Anyone with a brain could’ve told you Paul would be a failure a USC. The game had passed him by a few years ago and now you throw the NIL chaos into the mix. Yeah….

Yeah in his later years at LSU he always looked extremely frustrated and sometimes looked real gassy, like he needed to take a massive shite. But I think the migraines or whatever pain he was having is what had him looking that way.

it's not like South Carolina was that bad last season
they did make regionals
they have had some key injuries but he still brought back Petry who could play anywhere
all I remember was Beloso having a nice fr year and the next year looked totally lost at the plate
Beloso had to see a therapist to regain his swing

He took LSU from a team that was expected to be in Omaha every year to a team where fans accepted only going to Omaha every 3-4 years.
Paul didn't do that, the evolution of college baseball did that. Some of you are still stuck in the 90's.

It was Ray Tanner in one of his last acts prior to retiring.

Between Covid, NIL, and the transfer portal, yes.

He was always good at throwing his players under the bus and driving over them
Posted on 4/29/25 at 4:31 pm to tigerskin
In his defense the portal has changed everything. Now there is little excuse in him being unaware
Posted on 4/29/25 at 4:49 pm to tigerskin
I still have no idea why he jumped back into this especially in the NIL/portal world. If he really wanted to do some coaching, he could have some consulting type stuff like John Brady does with BRCC.

Not only has he only been out of coaching 3 years, but he was with the team a lot the last 3 years right? Seemed to always be at the stadium

I have no clue why everyone here insisted on using his comments to trash the guy. It’s really weird how this place always does that
I took his comments like he was saying the quality of the players he got at LSU were so much better than what he gets at South Carolina
It’s almost like he caught himself and realized he accidentally trashed his own team then threw out a bunch of generic coach speak after his initial statement

Let’s not forget when he said something like “i dont know where they get these guys” when talking about other teams having big fast athletes
