EVERY sport has unwritten rules. baseball may have more than others, but every damn sport has them.

hockey fights, for instance, are generally agreed to by both participants beforehand and are typically over some type of violation of unwritten rules

it's not really trolling

this thread is just a great example of how stupid baseball and its "unwritten rules" are

it's either a rule, or it's not

You seem to be the only one having trouble understanding it.

batters getting hit in the head is pretty rare

The odds increase when a pitcher intentionally throws at a batter's head. It's not unheard of for a batter to sustain serious injury when he is beaned in the head. Its also not unheard of for such a case to be resolved by the legal system (the one outside of baseball's rulebook).

all i said was that i hope LSU fans call out the coach/team anytime we hit another player, per the rule

Why? Can you recall instances when LSU has intentionally thrown at opposing batters? Mainieri specifically said after the game he doesn't coach his team to play baseball that way. Per Mainieri, LSU is a better program than resorting to that type of play. As an LSU fan, I'm glad LSU has such a class act as coach, but thanks for not noticing any of that.

If an LSU player did that, I'd hope then that the pitcher was immediately benched.

It does say something that we didn't try to repay the favor, as a lot of teams that get pitched at will try and do in retaliation.

I ripped Mangione's arse a couple years ago after he called, "my ball," and threw off our fielder. He actually responded to the e-mail and I made him backtrack and eat his words.

Now I'm tempted to write him and Cohen again.

I think the ump would have been justified in throwing both the pitcher and coach out of the game. I think that is what PM was arguing. There is zero chance that the first pitch against Katz was not intentional. That decision by Cohen could have resulted in a serious injury.

justified, but I don't think necessary. should have been warn if he was not, in not sure, I didn't see it.

The problem with the warning thing..is that it lets coaches think they can do it once to send a message..which shouldn't happen. Katz does not deserve a throw to the head...not even one..for simply being able to have success against their pitchers.

I think the warning was sent to both dugouts.

The rulebook implies no tolerance for throwing at the head, specifically. If he threw at his back or behind his back, warning, yes. But at his head? Should have tossed them both, plus suspended them both next weekend.

then the ref should have been called out for not enforcing the rule

The ref? Ever watch a baseball game before? Fyi, they're called umpires. Hard to take someone seriously when you can't even get basic terminology right.

Maybe the SP wasn't trying to hit Katz. I believe, as most everyone else does, that the SP was just trying to intimidate Katz. But, as was said earlier, the SP was hitting the spot all day, so when he threw the pitch in question, could it have been to try get Katz to charge the mound and get thrown out of the game? Crazier things have happened.

When did this happen? Katz's first plate appearance? First pitch he saw? What was the score?

It is classless to throw at someone's head, but its even worse if Moo State already had the game in hand.
