here ya go. i asked for a rule and there is one
i hope all LSU fans call our coach/players trash the next time we intentionally hit an opposing batter
throwing at the head is always trashy. Hitting an opposing batters is trashy if they didn't do anything to warrant it. Ya know, like in football when somebody is acting like a bitch they aim to hit him harder or even draw a PF. It happens in all sports. In baseball, it's just easier to do and more noticeable.

I have seem many pitches go up and in and the hitter just starts barking. Warnings get issued and no one gets tossed. Seen it plenty of times.
Yes, a warning was issued here as well -- FOR BREAKING THE RULES. The punishment can vary, and is within the discretion of the umpire, but it is still a violation of the rules. Just because the umpire used his discretion to issue a lighter penalty than he could have does not mean that there was not rules violation. In fact, the issuance of a warning is clear evidence that a rules violation did occur.
I think the umpire handled it correctly, BTW. But I also think Cohen is a tremendous assbag for calling for one of his players to throw at someone's head. But that's par for the course for that douchenozzle.

Well that and the blown calls early. Bregman was robbed!
It's the SEC. This will happen. It has to happen.
SEC officials in every sport are a joke.

MLB and college are different
There's a code in MLB and retaliation will happen at some point in time
There is a code in pro ball where pitchers throw at hitters for certain things and it's always in retaliation.... for stealing or bunting with a big lead, for sliding into an infielder spikes high, for showing up a pitcher by standing in the box or "Cadillacing" around the bases after a home run....or payback for one of your own hitters betting hit with a pitch. The code is to put one in the hitters ribs. The code doesn't extend to throwing at a hitter's head because he's on a tear. Pitching him inside is different. Intentionally throwing at a hitter's head is not part of the code.

If I'm an opposing coach, I waste a pitch every game until LSU proves they can handle it.
You act like it's some sort of revelation that throwing at someone's head might affect their performance. If you are an opposing coach, who does that intentionally, you better be prepared for your All American to get one under the chin as well.
It is a losing proposition in the long run. And, as you said, it's bush league. The SEC has a few coaches who are sketchy, but I doubt any of them other than Cohen would choose to throw behind someone's head to gain an advantage.
Should this become any sort of pattern, Mainieri will have no choice but to have his pitchers protect their teammates. I think Mainieri believes/knows (based on his years and years of experience) that this won't be a pattern because people who coach the game understand it better that you do.

You are a fricking dumbshite if you think that throwing high at a hitter's head like that is ok, whether he hit him or not.

no advantage in buzzing someone's head. it's just a classless act that has no place

I understand the rules of the game. You said the act of throwing at a hitter's head was illegal and will result in the pitcher being ejected, even in the MLB. That is not true. The rule is that it is illegal to throw at a hitter intentionally, regardless of whether you are throwing at a hitter's head or his arse. Here is the exact rule if you would like:
quote:
Rule 8.02(d) does not give the umpire the discretion to allow the opposing pitcher an opportunity to retaliate in kind before the warning or ejection. Nor does the Rule mandate, even in an instance where a pitcher has intentionally thrown at the head of a hitter, that the pitcher must be ejected.
I understand that it is always at the discretion and judgement of an umpire, but you said if you throw at the head, its an auto ejection-which isn't true.
quote:Agree with you here. No need to let LSU throw at someone and let things get out of hand.
I think the umpire handled it correctly
quote:I agree with you here also.
But I also think Cohen is a tremendous assbag for calling for one of his players to throw at someone's head.

The previous comment bout Ron Polk being against Cohen's hire was dead on. Polk was & could be an ornery old goat, but he built that program from the bottom up & to the extent he wanted his name removed from anywhere on the stadium because Cohen was hired pretty much says what he feels bout Cohen's character & lack of class. Course, Moo St. fans love Cohen which says it all, too. This is the same fan base who loved it when Jackie cut off the bull's nutsack to motivate his team..or threatened to, anyway. Cohen's going to have to come to The Box next yr, if we don't see him sooner in Hoover later this season. As opposed to State's horrible attendance, that game will be SRO with LSU fans.
