re: LSU scored 40+ nine times last year, only twice this year

All of the SEC scoring was down this year. We have the firepower. Just can’t turn the ball over like we did. Hard to overcome giving up so many possessions.
We have nothing compared to the firepower of last year. It’s not close. Is it enough to score 40+ points in 9 games? Results say we do not have the firepower or it would have happened. Our offensive line was average at best when it was supposed to be dominant.

don't know if Sloan is the answer or not, but the offense was going to take a few steps backwards regardless of who was coaching. You lost a Heisman QB and two first round WRs.
Of course it was going to go backward compared to the 2023 team.
What I wrote was they are sliding backward as the season progressed, getting worse over time, as opposed to getting better.
That’s a coaching problem.

We also couldn’t stop Edna Karr on defense last year so we got more possessions

They also scored 34+ 6 times and averaged 32.35/game. The solution is make FG’s and don’t turn the ball over as much at the tail end of the season …

LSU had a Heisman quarterback for 13 games last year, and zero this year.

An RPO offense does not require a dual threat QB.
It sure helps. Nuss refused to even scramble for easy first downs on broken pass plays.

And are you blaming the lack of success from the RB position on not having a dual threat QB?
No, I don’t know why our running game sucked. Scheme or bad OL play or play calling…I don’t have the answer to that.

A severe lack of physicality on the LOS since BK took over. There's a lot of players that are good kids, but very few that play with an edge.

Amazing what happens when you lose a first round QB and two first round WR’s..

The system that LSU runs ( RPO) is better suited for a QB that you know actually has the threat of a run.
This fanbase will say things like this.
Then turn around and try to have opinions on matters like playcalling, scheme, and coaching.

We haven't dominated teams in the trenches since the middle of the Miles tenure.

Malik Nabers was a big difference. Also, Jayden's ability to run made the OL look a lot better than they really were.

Well as long as LSUs OL continues to look like a shite show at run blocking, our RBs won’t ever be able to run. RBs are only as good as their OLs

Having a Heisman QB as a second-year starter helps with scoring.

Then explain the OU game. It’s the most recent outing….
When you lose 2 OGs to injury, don’t be shocked when SEC teams have a way of attacking that. With a healthy CJ Daniels, we were a pretty good offense. If Chris Hilton comes back with another solid outing in Houston, then this offense is a lot better than most. They would be good enough to average 35 @ that point.

We also had a Heisman qb and 2 outstanding receivers on the offense. Get your head out of your arse.

Go back and look at the USC game and the FL game and look at how many crucial passes were dropped or not even caught. And the fumbles in the opposing team's red zone. That is the difference between 10-2 and 8-4. Even with the TAM and Bama losses. We really weren't that far off from making playoffs. And yes if Nuss can run when available that will also open up the offense. Maybe a light went off in the OK game. We'll see.

Obviously the OL has to be better in the run game. You have got to be able to get those hard yards and LSU seemed to almost never be able to do that this year. Someone needs to challenge the OL because their mentality/attitude is soft in my opinion. Need 2 outside playmaking WR’s. If Nussmeier stays, he needs to get.more accurate on deep balls, keep getting better at checking down, run a little more when protection breaks down and that it’s ok to take a sack or throw it away and punt. Red zone efficiency has got to better, it was pretty bad. Play calling at times in certain parts of the field was bad and certain junctures of the game ( being ahead late and getting too conservative was bad ). Need better protection up the middle of the OL if Nussmeier is the QB next year.

quote:Nuss not being a weapon in the redzone was the glaring difference from the past 2 years at LSU. LSU was 4th in the country in redzone TDs last year (one of those games Daniels didn't play and 2 of the 3 teams higher than them played an extra game), and 9th in redzone TD%. In 2022 LSU was 7th in redzone TDs and 14th in redzone TD %. This year LSU was 66th in redzone TDs and 99th in redzone TD %.
What needs t happen is get a QB that is dual threat or Nuss needs to run more when the opportunity is there. Skill position players that can catch the ball.

Have you wat hed the NFL this year?
Posted on 12/9/24 at 10:21 am to Batman86
And Red Zone TDs vs. Field goals. Offense was really good between the 20s. I think you’ll see that improved this year with Green and Pimpton plus more RB threats outside. Lots of speed joining the RB room.
