I am really expecting a lot from Tyrell Ward. A 5 star out of Dematha you know he played exceptional competition in high school. Personally think he is a huge key to a decent season.

It’ll be very interesting to see if McMahon gets a year 3. Year 2 doesn’t look like much hope for significant improvement

It looks like they're a little bigger and hopefully have some better shooters.

They need to shoot better. If this team is going to be competitive they need to shoot the 3 far better than they did last year.

That was nice and definitely fun.

challenging to win the SEC with him annually

We won it once, tied for second in the COVID year. Outside of that, LSU did not really challenge for the SEC title.

I thought he was a pretty good Xs & Os coach but I would not say he was great at that. Ultimately, though, a great coach in college is much more than Xs and Os, he is also a recruiter and motivator. Wade is one of those guys always on the edge of greatness, and I am not a Wader this is just how I see it. He got in his own way at LSU and the Tigers are worse for it but it was fun while it lasted. And I wish him luck except in the event he plays the Tigers.

Wade was an awful in game coach.

Please elaborate.

This mantra is often repeated, but NEVER supported.

Not like saying that at all.

ok

don't mention finishing 3rd and then losing the conference finals in a heartbreaker fashion as a putback rimmed out in the final seconds.

So somehow coming out 2nd for a title in 2 of 3 years isn't really challenging to win a title.

Ya sure. Everyone was beating his door down to hire him because he did nothing wrong. Lol

Conference tournament titles are not the same thing as challenging for the SEC title or if that is what you meant then Wade only did that once. That year we were effectively out of the running for the conference title February 23rd. Also lost to Bama at home by 30 points.

Is it SEC titles or SEC Tournament titles? Or both? Teams with losing records can win a tournament title, though I can not think of when that happened in the SEC. I took what you initially said to mean SEC Title but not the tournament title.

Wade's SEC progression:

Year 1: 8-10 T-9th
Year 2: 15-2 1st
Year 3: 12-6 T-2nd
Year 4: 11-6 3rd
Year 5: 9-9 5th

A few more years like that and some of the same people lamenting his departure would be asking for his head, rightly or wrongly because it is what Rantards do. Present company excluded of course.

I do miss the excitement Wade generated. Winning would fix that, I am not sure if our present coach will do that but I am not yet writing him off. Significant improvement is what I need to see, my metric for that is a .500 or better SEC record.

This pleases me.

Did you see Michael Williams or Corey Chest?

Thanks for the report!

Corey Chest is lanky and extremely athletic. He kept missing dunks, however. Michael Williams introduced himself and seemed very confident (more confident than Daimion Collins, a junior). Michael looked solid for a freshman and was quick. Since most of the practice was running drills, it's hard to translate to what they might do in a game.

I'm excited about this upcoming year, I think LSU will be fine in the backcourt, they need Reed, Collins, Baker and Fountain to play at a SEC level.

Thank you!

It would be great if Williams could develop as a pg at the college level.

There is ZERO chance that CMM is going to get canned in March of 2024...ZERO.

i hope not, but i guarantee you it's more than zero.
His team looked pathetic last year. He gets a pass for last year for the most part, but the way that team lacked effort and energy was not a good sign. If they win 2-4 SEC games again looking pathetic again, and he's got no one he's bringing in recruiting, again (he's got zero people signed, and doesn't have anyone hard committed or interested either) he's getting the boot.

I am worried that Cook is not cleared to play this year, yet. If he doesn't receive the anticipated waiver, the season will be much longer and harder to bear.

Alt, it's the same lazy bullshite they just repeat because they read it on the rant and is NOWHERE NEAR reality..

If any of the anti Wade brigade MORONS get a chance, they can go look up and compare Wade's 5 years at LSU to coach Gay's first 5 at Puke, Dale's first 5 at LSU, and many other elite coaches. SPOILER ALERT: he stacks up NICELY against the overwhelming majority. And yes ladies, all the big time players are recruited illegally to their school of choice, so Wade is not alone in that.

We can debate if Dale was elite or not, but he's clearly LSU'S best coach ever, and for about a 15 year stretch had us borderline elite.

I've posted before that I think Wade would have had a Scott Drew type tenure at LSU, which I would take in a heartbeat.

I don't understand anti Wade LSU "fans". He would have had us in the tournament 90%+ of the time, and I bet had he stayed here long term, he'd have won a natty or two. We DID NOT HAVE TO LET HIM GO. The NCAA is IMPOTENT at this point. Woodward was just throwing his homie Emmert a bone by firing Wade.
