Coached guys like Blaine Knight and Kevin Kopps at Arky. Couldn’t name anymore without doing some research.

Blaine went 11-0 during their CWS run if I remember right and Kopps won the Golden Spikes

I want Wes to be DVH’s replacement when he retires…but Vitello recruited both the pitchers you reference and Kopps won the Golden Spikes last season, after a pretty mediocre career to that point. So credit to him goes to his 3 year pitching coach Hobbs.

Johnson was good when here, even though it was just for a season. State fans do blame him for lots of TJ issues, but he wasn’t in Fayetteville long enough for me to attest to that.

Maybe he misses college baseball

This may be true. Some people are wired that way. He might not like having to deal with pictures that he feels he can make a difference in their lives. MLB pitchers probably don’t give a rats arse about what some person they don’t even know trying to help them. I would imagine most probably think they know more than their pitching coach

Pretty good hire
His best season was his first ranking 7th out of 30 teams in total team era.
Just providing a stat for other data geeks.
Just injecting some passive/aggressive to downplay anything positive since I can't help myself.

This hire will boost recruiting immediately. In spades. You don't understand how big Wes Johnson is in the industry.

More importantly will boost pitcher development

Man State fans wanted him gone after one season if I remember right. Childress is a hell of a coach. Not the greatest recruiter, I admit, but he can make pitchers better.

Summary of college/pro coaching stints

Southern Arkansas
Central Arkansas
2012-2015 Dallas Baptist
2016 - Mississippi St.
2017-2018 Arkansas
2019-2022 Minnesota Twins
2022- LSU

Looks like he coached with Dan Fitzgerald (now Kansas Head Coach) at Dallas Baptist from 2013-2015. May have been one of the connections to get him here.

Miss st fans wanted him gone after they went 21-9 in the sec? And finished 29th in the country in era.
And how do arkansas fans feel about him?

And guess what, he can recruit very well, unlike childress

As someone who knows someone who pitched for him, this is pretty much as big of a homerun hire as you can get

I can't wait to see MadKing spin this into a bad hire, and letting us know Bianco is better than Jay Johnson.
