Why would a sitting major league pitching coach leave for a lateral move to college, especially in the middle of the season on a first-place team? Unless this is a pure lifestyle change, something doesn’t add up.

Just glancing at team era sinc he arrived to Minnesota
2019: 7/30
2021: 27/30
2022: 9/30
Didn't count 2020 due to covid
His best season was his first ranking 7th out of 30 teams in total team era.

Key factor in this hire: both Johnson’s put their pencil/pen in their hat when not in use which is the first thing Jay was looking for

Hopefully this helps with our recruiting class as well. Glad we have our guy before the draft hits.
Imagine those kids who have even a sliver of doubt about becoming professionals getting a call from an MLB Pitching Coach who will be their guy if they choose school instead.
I feel a lot better about us having the 6 or 5 guys we can count on to start games now.

Can't say this sits well with me either but I'll guess he'll have a HC job in the near future.
Let's hope we don't lose him back to the professional levels over the winter, too.
