not sure why our fanbase has so many vocal idiots.
CPM recognized this team’s issues at the plate and pulled off what looks to be a damn good hire bringing in Smith in the “volunteer” position as hitting coach.
All the idiots have been BEGGING for a hitting coach with credentials......CPM gets one......and........still bitching....

As for Ochinko I haven’t heard anything. Weird how CPM made it clear there were not going to be any changes made, then a month goes by with zero smoke, then this happens. I’m guessing Ochinko decided to move on on his own but who knows.
Maybe he was giving him a chance to find another job somewhere and have something lined up before making a move.

LOL at the people who said we couldn’t hire a decent Volunteer Coach because it’s “Volunteer”.

We are LSU baseball. Unless their name is Tim Corbin or maybe Kevin O’Sullivan (not that I want him), we can get whoever the frick we want once their contract runs out. Although I will say there are some coaches who wouldn’t leave their school for money because they have love for their school or it’s their Alma mater, and that’s a different situation entirely.

I think its obvious he wasnt gonna admit in a press conference that he was looking to make coaching changes

Maybe that opportunity was presented to him when being offered a volunteer spot. Make a bet on yourself in the short term, and it may pay off big time later.
I'm sure this is the big factor, and if not LSU, he will set himself up for something like Cannizaro did with State.

I’d mentioned in May that a thorough evaluation of the baseball program would be facilitated by Woody following the seasons end and Paul would be given some strong recommendations about his staff.
I'm mentioning in July that your May comment was downright foolish.

One less thing to rant about until baseball season begins. Next.

Awesome hire! I played for Eddie on a team in the Dominican Republic. He ran a camp and formed a Team that traveled around Santo Domingo and played a bunch of local teams. He’s an excellent coach and a really nice guy.

What I noticed about his Tulane stats is how the home runs increased. Cabrera and Beloso might hit 25 each next season

Solid hire even with the former ties. At least this guy has earned it.
The frustration with PM is when he hires former players that don't have the experience needed to handle am assistant job the caliber of LSU.
Ochinko had no business getting that job but I do hope he lands somewhere if coaching is what he wants to do. At the time, PM was in a bind and because of the 17 Omaha run, it was almost like to show it wasn't Cannizaro who he praised every chance he got, I'll show him.
I do think this has Woodward all over it because of his connections to guys like Lipsey who has always been a big supporter of the baseball program going back to when Bertman started it.
I think PM handled it similar to the way Miles did, not throw Ochinko under the bus but allow him time to find somewhere to land or another career move which is similar to the way Javi was exited out.

Really happy with this. I was really doubting if Mainieri would ever make a move.

Just some more information on Eddie. It seems like his offenses have made a huge jump at each of his stops, not just Tulane.

In Smith’s first season on the Mission campus, the Broncos won 26games - nine more than in 2011 The Bronco offense exploded to lead the conference in stolen bases and finished second in home runs, slugging more than twice as many home runs as the year before. Santa Clara also won the conference title for fielding percentage and Bronco infielders committed just 27 errors the entire season.

Cannizzaro left right before the ‘17 season and he had no choice but to hire from within and he promoted Gibbs. That team was good with veteran players and Gibbs did a good job turning it around because that team did not start out well offensively. I understand Gibbs being retained for ‘18 then he had his knee surgery before the ‘18 season and CPM had no choice but to promote Ochinko. Up until this point i understood why CPM did what he did. The only thing I have a problem with was retaining Ochinko as the hitting coach after 2018. He is making the change now but it should have happened last year.

Yes 3 months before the season starts I would consider right before.

Right into the record books a few years ago for most runners thrown out at home plate. By a mile.

He had choices besides gibbs, just not easy choices.
