It is a construction project in Louisiana. Studies aren't going to pay for themselves.

Public money complicates things.

The building is used for a ton of stuff other than basketball.

Also they need to look at this as an economic investment and start using the PMAC for concerts again. If the state puts up money the building needs to become a revenue generator for the state.

Also a $100 million renovation is not what we need. We need a tear down and rebuild.

While I agree with LSU being our shining star. I have little faith that any of that money will actually go to renovations for the PMAC. Call me cynical.

Other than one thousand dollars, no money was budgeted.

They authorized that this project be put on the list of capital outlay projects approved for construction. It’s priority 5 so it has a low priority

It says bonds have to be sold to pay for half. It says TAF has to generate half. If and when the bonds are sold the proceeds would be dedicated to the PMAC.

Other than the 1K no money was spent.

Why should taxpayers pay for this?

Because my taxes pay for enough crap I don't care about, it is time they start payingfor something I do care about.

Houston built the Fertitta Center for $60 million. Auburn built their new facility for $86 million. If we can't turn an already existing PMAC into one of the premier facilities in the country with $100million then we have some major problems. $100million upgrades to a building that is already there should make this a top 5 facility in the country or it's a huge failure.

Well, knowing Louisiana about $10 million will be for actual work the other $91 million will be eaten up in bribes and kick backs.

I’m with you….what kind of renovations can be done on an existing structure that will cost $101 million. Sounds like a complete gutting. Will suites be added?

Nothing more important than a basketball arena. This state is so fricked.

Have you seen all the studies conducted on BR needing a new bridge...and the money wasted

Hopefully LSU’s new capacity will be more than those. It doesn’t need to be 13,200 anymore but a rectangular 12,000 seat arena would be nice.

man i wish you hadn't said this. Now i'm going to be extremely disappointed with the most likely very shitty and basic renovation they will do.

and i agree that if the state is paying for this, then it needs to be a revenue generator for the state as well. I assumed TAF would pay for something like this.

It’s more than just basketball
Multiple sports use it
On top of that it’s the building you send your graduates off in and it’s a dump
It should be the show piece of campus
Get ready for games at the river center during construction

Why must we have a rectangle arena? I've seen this preached so much, but don't see why it's a "must have"

I’m pretty sure I got that ball rolling. I’ve been beating that drum for a long time. Oval arenas are a relic of the past. Look at any NBA arena or nice college arena. Oval arenas look shitty. When it’s rectangular the crowd is on top of the court, better home court advantage.

I remember Northwestern was able to totally revitalize their outdated arena with a $110 million renovation just a few years ago.

Depends if they're doing a true renovation or just band-aids. $101M would point towards a complete gutting. Ole Miss built an entire new arena in 2016 with less than $101M.

Really hope the TAF can somehow take control of the actual construction part otherwise I have no faith in the state in getting this done and actually making it a premier facility.

2016 pricing for Construction is around double the price in 2023. shite my 2019 Highway project vs my 2023 project we just won for the same materials was double the cost.
