Would think the incoming kid from CA is gonna be our CF.

Is he going to hit? I think that's an open question.

Nice. He was a hard out when LSU played against him this past season.

Where is this coming from? It seems like he has played primarily 1B and DH with a few games at catcher.

there were two mlb teams playing a double header, decades ago, that made a trade with each other in between games

Curiel is not going to be a day 1 starter most likely

He's one of those "shorts" wearing guys with his tights showing between his socks and shorts...hopefully that gets rectified...we are one of the few teams left that doesn't run any of those clowns out there like this or with the fanny pack play cards!

From the signees thread:

quote:

Derek Curiel, OF: Curiel is a top-120 MLB draft prospect in MLB.com and ESPN's rankings. The California recruit and Orange Lutheran High center fielder is the No. 10 player in the country, according to Perfect Game.

Not sure what you’re getting at? He’s definitely fallen way down draft boards. Perfect Game hasn’t updated his ranking in a long time. He isn’t close to a top 10 high school prospect. I’m ecstatic that we are getting him to campus but he almost for sure won’t be a major contributor in year one. Hopefully he stays at LSU long enough to become a star for us in a few years.

Jay Johnson is not afraid to start a true freshman on day 1.

2024 Day 1 - Jake Brown started
2023 Day 1 - Paxton Kling & Brady Neal started

Yea I agree I would think Hernandez would rotate at 1st and DH. If anyone moves to the hot corner it would be Milam or Braswell if he stays

Jay. Johnson.

Some of you guys think the world of this guy, but the roster he fielded this year was not much above average. Our hitting sucked against good teams. Our approach at the plate lacked a sound strategy. We had two starting pitchers. Bullpen was OK at times but had too many stretches of guys' not beiing able to throw strikes. How many 3rd game losses did we have due to lack of quality arms? No one even close to qualifying as a real closer.

This guy Stanfield hit .276, 4 HRs, and 25 RBIs which is absolutely nothing to be excited about unless he's being broiught in for outfield depth. We are not recruiting on the same level as Arkansas, Texas A&M, Florida, and Tennessee, plain and simple.

Stanfield has a decent on base percentage and runs the bases well, having even stolen home base. LSU historically sits near the bottom of the SEC in stolen bases. Johnston seems no more inclined than Mainieri was to attempt steals.

Stanfield could be in the mix to lead off. He will need to cut down on strikeouts.

LSU struggled to find a lead off guy with the qualities needed for the spot, a patient hitter who runs up the pitch count on their starter, gets on base a lot and runs well once on base.

I know Jay Johnston knows more about baseball a thousand times over than me. But having Tommy White lead off at the end was a head scratcher. White is a first pitch hitter who not only has below average speed, but also took almost no lead off first to protect his shoulder if he had to dive back. White was perfect three hole hitter to me, hopefully with runners on base. I would be very curious as to why Jay lead him off at the end, just so he would get more at bats?

I hope with Larson, Brown, Milam and now Stanfield we can see LSU be a more complete team and run the bases better.
