I am not guaranteeing they will put up the ridiculous numbers of that squad, that they will win the Natty, or that Nuss will win the Heisman but......
I have the same gut feeling I had heading into 2019. The seasoned QB who put up good solid numbers while showing flashes of greatness! A lot of young players getting seasoning, showing flashes! The feeling that we're loaded with a lot of proven talent that are of 1 mind, 1 goal while the rest of the SEC are breaking in new QBs or skill guys, all the national guys slobbering over Arch claiming he's the 2nd coming even though he didn't beat out Ewers last year but he's supposed to be a Heisman Natty winning QB in year 1 while completely overlooking LSU and the squad they've built! I really do feel like they have no idea what BK has cooking up for the rest of the league this year! I will come back and eat crow if I'm wrong but I think the floor for LSU is a playoff berth and fully believe they are set up if they execute on Saturdays to bring home another Natty!

I have the same feeling as the last 2 years.

I have to see it to believe it.
Will the defense be better?
Will the o line be able to open up holes for the running game?
Will BK be able to win an opener?

Where are the receipts? Maybe for 2023 when we were ranked Top 5 preseason, but I'd need to see posts that said OPs exact title to believe it for 20, 21, 22, 24. Hell, even 23. Link them if you can.

I have not been 1 of those folks I don't say that every year! I had reasonable level headed outlooks the last 2yrs and heading into those seasons felt they were a mid team & even over achieved but like I said just have a gut feeling which is the way i felt heading into '19! I could be wrong and end up looking like a complete asshat but I don't think I will! But that's why they play the games so we'll see!

I have the same feeling as the last 2 years.

I have to see it to believe it. Too much reality for the blind PG bleeders.

Will the defense be better? Slightly. From below average to average/above average. Not enough to make up for the weak OL.

Will the o line be able to open up holes for the running game? No and Nuss will be under constant pressure. Offense will take a step back.

Will BK be able to win an opener? No. BK is nothing but a 2/3 loss SEC coach. If he had actually coached against decent teams, you could add another 10-20% to his loss column.

Yeah I thought we'd be good in 2019, but after the Texas game I was like holy shite. This season I'm cautiously optimistic but still expecting 9-3 until I see for myself that our DEs understand how to keep contain and our safeties and LBs don't bite on the wrong guy on a read option every single time the opponent runs one.

I do not...but that's because, going into 2019 I did not expect anything close to the greatness we experienced. I expected an improvement over 2018, maybe playing for a spot in the SEC championship game.

That said, I do feel good about this year, sort of how I felt about the just-finished baseball season before it started. I also feel - and I know I'm in the minority - that the Clemson game is going to turn out like the Oregon opener from several years ago.

(I also feel confident we will *not* go undefeated. I hope I'm wrong!)

Will the OL Coach be able to coach them how to effectively do that? He couldn't do it last season with Campbell, Dellinger, Frazier and Jones in the starting OL.

Based on our QB play the previous decade there’s no way anyone had a gut feeling our O would be that elite in 2019 and anyone says they did is as big a liar as LeBron James when he said he predicted Kobe would score 80.

I do too. Put money on it and won in 2019 , July. Did the same thing this year in April. Agree a lot with what shadow tiger said.

If we were playing Clemson second week of the season like Texas, I'd feel a lot better about the game.

Got a lot of question marks going in than we did in 2019. We will be successful if:

1. Our defense shows improvement and returns to being formidable.
2. Our O-line remains stalwart for the most part
3. Nuss and all of our playmakers stay healthy
4. We get the run game going
5. Both Sloan and Nuss take that next step after having a year to build off of under their belts.
6. We come in every game ready to go and want it more than the other team.

I have very guarded optimism. The reason is the 2023 season.

Going into that season the ingredients for a championship run seemed to be there. LSU returned its entire OL, two very good WRs, lead RB and, most importantly a 5th year senior QB with documented production. The defense lost some key guys, but I gave House the benefit of the doubt because for many game the 2022 defense kept LSU in games when the offense, particularly Daniels, was inconsistent. My thought was (like this year) if LSU can win the opener then they would have enough margin for error to get through the SEC schedule well enough to reach the CFP given the four road games were @ Ole Miss, Mizzou, Miss. St, and Alabama. 3-1 among that group was a very reasonable ask.

The offense was so much better than anyone could have imagined. But it seemed inconceivable the defense got so much worse. Still, even just an average defense likely results in wins over Ole Miss and Alabama given how explosive the offense was in those games.

This year a lot of those same ingredients ahead of 2023 are there (minus the returning OL). But I watched a coaching staff in 2023 be wholly incapable of adjusting to the strengths/weakness of the team that year. LSU doesn't get the luxury of "figuring it out" at the beginning of the year with arguably the toughest season opener since 2011. A loss in the opener given LSU very little margin for error the rest of the way even if they do "figure it out".

It seems to me that CBKs biggest weakness is gametime adjustments.

You can win a lot of games with solid talent and coaching but game time adjustments are a real differentiator at the college level.

For the 2019 team, Aranda was making game time adjustments and his formula was pretty obvious IMO: very basic defense in the first half then stunts and blitz packages starting in the middle of the 3rd quarter. That was his approach in every game.

Burrow and Brady were the difference on offense in terms of game time adjustments.

Unless I'm missing something (and I'm probably missing something), CBK does a poor job of adjusting to the flow of the game. Sometime I think it's better for LSU to get behind early because if forces CBK to adjust.

NFL teams play cat and mouse games with each other through the entire game. Most college teams do not have the capacity to adjust, counter-adjust and adjust again. The college teams that can make gametime or drive time adjustments are usually very successful.

Nobody foresaw 2019.....LSU's best season ever. Nobody foresaw what Burrow became. We were all hopeful.....
