UCLA went 19-33 in 2024, made Omaha in 2025, and will be the overall no. 1 seed this year.

Granted, it is pretty much the same guys on the UCLA roster now from 2024 but you there are up and down years.

This is an awful season and team, but seems to be more of an exception than a rule

The Smoke days were like this every weekend.

bullshite.

Smoke's first 4 seasons, LSU was 1st or second in the SEC West, won 40+ games every year, worst conference record in that stretch was 18-12, was in the regional every year, advanced to the Supers 3 times, and to Omaha twice. He won the SEC Regular season title in 2003.
His 5th season, which was his last, we still won 35 games, despite going 13-17 in conference (something we've been desperately hoping for the past week).

This year, we're currently 29-24, 9-18 in conference, with a series against Fla and the SEC tournament left. The best thing you can say is, there's not enough games left to finish with an overall record below 500... but we could realistically go 29-28.
That's fricking shocking.

It might not be the worst team in LSU history (there's a lot of garbage pre-Skip), but it's the worst team since Skip came here.

The previous worst was Paul Mainieri's first season, he went 29-26-1, but at least he went 12-17-1 in conference. This year's team may win more overall games, but can't finish better than 12-18.

I know that no one was watching, but there was baseball at LSU before Skip....and some VERY bad baseball.

So no - it's not.

Eh, the 2007 lsu team was worse than this team. I understand why you think not, but the sec is alot tougher now than it was then.

In May of 07, LSU went on the road to Fayetteville and took 2 of 3 from the 3rd ranked team in the country. They left Arkansas with a 11-12-1 record in SEC play at that point.

They had a chance going into the last SEC weekend of the season of finishing with a winning record in conference. The problem was they had to go to Nashville and play the #1 ranked team in the country so it didn’t end well.

This year’s team is infinitely worse

You weren't around in the Jim Smith days (late 60s/early 70s).

Smith was the equipment manager for the football team - his real day job - who also coached the baseball team because he was a shortstop in high school or something

The results were pretty much commensurate.

No, in 1928, LSU was 4-23

Yes, this year should go down as the most disappointing baseball season of all time considering the preseason expectations.

Good point, of course it's not the worst season ever - if you go back all time several seasons were worse.

But in terms of results as compared to expectations and to be honest, results as compared to relative talent, one could make an argument this might be the worst in that regard.

Though before Skip no one watched or cared so there weren't really expectations, but not too many of those teams were talented enough to compete for anything of note.

I don't know but I know Jack Lemabe sure had some stinkers when I was in school at LSU so I don't know if this is the worst. I guess considering the lofty expectations but there were some bad teams under Lemabe when I was there

IMO, it's the worst team since Skip arrived in '84.

FTR, I went to a few games pre-Skip. Maybe 100 people in the old Box.

All that said, we still control our own destiny. Win the SECT and voila!

The 2007 LSU baseball team was NOT worse than this year's team. That team was 11-12-1 SEC after an upset (2-1 games) series win @ #3 ranked Arkansas. They lost their last two series, 1-2 vs Florida and 0-3 @ #1 Vanderbilt, partly courtesy of the infamous Vandy Whistler, who was more strident and annoying then than he is today.

Look at Jim Smith’s records in the 60s and 70s. In 1978 he went 12-34. Good years in there too, but this is the toughest the SEC has ever been and we’ll end around .500.

We have the worse pitchers in the league, that's the problem. Under Nate, the pitchers have been underperforming. I'm not calling for his job, but he needs to be evaluated at the end of the season.

This is the Worst LSU baseball team in 41 years: still has a winning overall record.

As of May 10, 2026, the 2026 LSU baseball team has set a program record by being swept in four 3-game SEC series in a single season!

Other records this season:

• The team was swept in three consecutive SEC weekends for the first time in program history

• They set a new school record with nine consecutive SEC losses

Definitely the worst since Lamabe and Smith. Smoke wasn't this bad. His lowest win total was 35, and his worst SEC record was 13-17.
