Currently and into the foreseeable future, yes.

Remember 4 recruiting classes ago and in the NIL and transfer portal era coach O left us with two and 1/2 players. It will be at least a decade before we can flatten the curve.

With the resources and the name, yes they should be in the playoff every year.

12 team playoff where 4 spots are pre-taken we cant get.
I don’t think people have figured this part out yet. LSU is competing for one of 8 spots and there’s 8 or 9 other schools just in the SEC that have the same expectations.

The goal every year is to make it, the minimum expectation is going to be lower than that.

Yes, you are asking way too much of a 10M a year coach.

Every year? No. But we should be be in the playoff at least every 3 years. Final four every 4/5 years.

I would be happy with that.

No.

Unlikely every year? Yes.
Too much to ask? No.

I would say at a Program like LSU we should be in the playoff every 3/5 or 6/10 years to be satisfied as fans and with the talent in Louisiana plus our ability to Nationally recruit.
If we don’t our ability to Nationally recruit will take a hit.

NO

It isn’t, and don’t let the losers here stuck in the 90s fool you. For the LSU of today to not make the 12 team playoffs 3 out of every 4 years it is a failure.

I don't think it is.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Are your expectations for them to be significantly better than they have been historically? Just looking at the AP Top 12 as a rough go by LSU, they have been in the Top 12:

27 times in 89 years (30.3%).

9 times in the last 25 years (36%)

2 times in the last 10 years (20%)

Breaking it down even more

2 times in Saban's 5 years twice (40%)

5 times in Miles' 11 full seasons (45.4%)

2 times in O's 5 full seasons (40%)

Kelly has none at LSU yet.

The expectation looks like it should be to get in every other year or every third year. I think it is reasonable to expect LSU to be in the conversation in the last few weeks of every season or at least 80% of the time.

So based on your assessment and LSU's final rankings every year since 1936, every coach at LSU has been a failure. Miles (45.4%) has the highest percentage of finishing in the top 12 followed by Paul Deitzel (42.9%).
Only twice in the last 10 years (thank Joey B). Interesting.

I mean we just signed an elite class and just had our worst season in the past 3 years

Recruiting isnt THAT much connected as you think it is to season results. Look at Auburn this year as a great example. They went 6-7 last year and 5-7 this year and signed a top class.

The NIL world is different and we are a major player in it.

LSU football should be in the 12 team playoffs 6 times out of every 10 years.

MINIMUM.

If the playoffs didn’t exist, would we be happy with a #13 final ranking every year?

Based on the last decade you would be severely disappointed if you expect that ever year

Yes because you're expecting LSU to suddenly do something they've never did before.

Just wait till next year

Maybe a shot if Nuss comes back and continues to progress. No shot for 2-3 years if we are breaking in a new QB.

Yes. We haven’t been that type of consistent program.

This.

We WERE that program for most of Miles' coaching career, but at the time only the top 2 teams would make it. So people got frustrated that we were dipping down into maybe 8th overall or so, and demanded he be fired. But he still would have had us in contention for a 12 team field probably 8 seasons.

Orgeron would have had us in 2.

Hell, Saban would have been in 2, maybe 3 (2001 only because we won in Atlanta, and maybe 2004 we still make it).

Yes. I’m sorry but no team is going to be in it every year anymore. The game has changed with the transfer portal. No team can just stockpile top players anymore.

At the minimum … at least half the time. When it goes to 16 teams … two-thirds.
