John Ferguson was the GOAT. I remember him calling the LSU-USC game in Tiger Stadium.
He was the GOAT. That’s one game I didn’t listen to. I sneaked in that game.

LSU-ND 1971
I’ve posted this before, but it’s a classic; ABC-TV feed synced with Ferguson & Hill radio call. Guaranteed to bring back memories; bonus of seeing Andy Hamilton fake Clarence Ellis out of his jock. (Audio is missing for the first minute and a half, but picks up after then.)

John Ferguson and Hill were GOATs Voice of the Tigers. The 72 Ole Miss game is a legendary call.

I was a very young kid for the 71 game against ND sitting with my mom and dad in the south end zone and got to see that goal-line stands first hand

Hawthorne WAS HORRIBLE. Ferguson on the other hand was top notch. I was born in 1969 and remember the radio broadcasts on 1150 WJBO. I do enjoy watching every game in high def, but definitely miss those days with Ferguson and Moreau.

I ran into John Ferguson’s son in Target here in Dallas last year. We talked for about 30 min about LSU, his dad, trips they took to LSU games. It was a pretty awesome experience

1969...10 years old. Transistor radio, bean bag chair, Saturday nights.
I was also 10 in 1969. Remember it well. My dad had season tickets so we went to many games. Would bring the radio to listen to Ferguson and Hill. Didn’t want to miss the play by play.

They don’t make em like they used to. Chris Blair doesn’t bring the passion.

Very first LSU game I ever saw on a colored television.
Defense was stellar, I think we held them inside our ten three or four times in the first half.
No telling what we'd have done if McClendon would have played Bert Jones the entire game, every game. Why he insisted on rotating QBs behooves me.

They were the best. I grew up listening to them back in the days when very few of the games were on television.
"Twice the Tigers have gone to LeDeux in the end zone and still no marbles".
I was at that game and did not hear the call live, but that was John Ferguson at his best, or at least a few seconds later.

John Ferguson was the best! Brings flashbacks to when I was young listening to LSU games on my transistor radio!
Back in the early 80's I took my Dad to an alumni event which Ferguson attended. We talked to him for about 10 minutes, total class individual...made my Dad's night, he was so happy!

Hi everybody, this is Walter Hill along with John Ferguson coming to you from Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin where today the Fighting Tigers of LSU will take on teh Wisconsin Badgers in an intersectional battle.
FFFFUUUUUUMMBBBBBBLLE and the Tigers have the football.
He's all alone in the moonlight for a wide open receiver.
He's hit it a ton for a booming punt.
And down he goes for a sack.
Brought down by a host of Tigers.

If I remember correctly, every time the Tigers scored a touchdown Ferguson would say "Touchdown LSU". It was his signature call for a TD!

I was there brother. Ferguson and I had a love/hate relationship. He drove me crazy with him getting excited about a run and it sounding like it would be a good one, only to end it with "and he's tackled for a loss".

quote:Cholly Mac always used to say there were three things that could happen when you threw a pass and two of them were bad. Why he didn't think there were also bad things that could happen when you ran the ball I don't know. I guess it just came down to most of the SEC coaches got ulcers when they saw that ball sailing all alone through the air.
