Billed as the “Oldest Par 3 In America,” built in the 1920’s. I moved from Alexandria before I played any golf, but want to try it sometime when passing through. Lots of nostalgia in the area around the course, with the zoo, the old amusement park. Bringhurst Field, and Dixie Youth baseball all being part of my childhood.

A little different take - as expensive as everything is, I'm wouldn’t bring a family of learners to one of the major resorts; you won’t get your money’s worth & won’t use anywhere close to all of the mountain, especially with only 3-4 days. Go somewhere smaller & cheaper and concentrate on learning.
In Colorado, Granby Ranch has ski-in/out lodging, a small mountain, cheaper prices, and 20 mins from Winter Park if you want to hit a big resort once you’re all comfortable on skis. Loveland is another smaller, affordable place but the closest lodging is about 15-20 minutes away in Georgetown (which is a cool little mining town.) Plus it’s closest to Denver. Other smaller areas: Red River & Angel Fire in NM, Whitefish in MT, and Grand Targhee in WY. Plenty of others as well.
If you’re committed to a big resort, check Park City UT - expensive, but lower altitude, easy access from SLC airport, fun ski town. For big CO resorts, Breck is good for families. Steamboat is too, but harder to get to. If you do go to Steamboat, spend your first day at Howelson Hill in the center of town - one of the longest operated ski areas in the country, home for Olympic training, and ridiculously cheap. Small & bare bones, but perfect for never-evers.

If you get to the Kaanapali area, try the Honokowai Okazuya & Deli. Styrofoam takeout in a strip center but maybe the best food (and portions & value) we had on Maui. Rumor has it the cooks worked (or maybe still do) at Mama’s.

Thanks for the Pagosa/Wolf Creek intel. We’re staying in a condo on Park Ave a mile or two west of Walmart (not the Wyndham property.) I assume that’s also west of Putt Hill, whatever that is. Is that a bad location?
Still haven’t figured out how to post links, but look up “All I Want Christmas To Be” by the Mona Lisa Twins on YouTube. Their Beatles covers are fantastic, and I really like this song for the old-guy memories it stirs.
Do yourself a favor and look up “McLemore Avenue”, Booker T’s tribute to Abbey Road. Have to admit I’d never heard of it before until it was mentioned in some of the stories about Steve Cropper’s passing. Duck Dunn’s on it as well, the distinctive BT&MGs sound puts an incredible spin on a classic album. I don’t know how to post videos but somebody put up a link to “Something.” I just ordered a copy on vinyl, better late than never.

re: The Rising role of a GM for Universities

The way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if the GM role eventually eclipses the head coach in scope and even value. Assuming NIL, portal, mega-conferences, TV money et al continue to grow, assembling and managing the “program” will be much more involved than preparing the team to play. It will also require a different skill set from most coaches - especially at the big football powers. Pay GMs like the top tier coaches are now, and pay coaches much less to specialize in X’s & O’s.

Hiking at Indian Canyons - Palm Canyon trail is spectacular and kid-friendly. And a second for the air museum.

re: Skiing in March 2026

Based on the “ski town” criterion with wife & kids and wanting ski in/out, and having done Breck:
1. Park City
2. Steamboat
Both have good towns & adequate ski-in/out options. Park City is lower elevation and easier to get to, but Steamboat is sometimes more reliable snow.

Go to the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum; it’s all genres (not just country) with emphasis on the musicians instead of the stars. It also showcases the production side of the recording industry with studios, hands-on activities, and various displays. Well worth the visit if you have any interest in any types of recorded music.
First time to Wolf Creek mid-January, seasoned citizen skiers, staying in Pagosa Springs. How concerned should we be about negotiating the drive to the ski area? We’ll have a AWD vehicle and have some experience driving in the mountains (for flatlanders anyway.) Also any general tips appreciated for the WC skiing (solid blues) and stuff to do in Pagosa Springs.
How about Saban as AD?

I’ll hang up and listen
Collegetown brand IIRC
I saw the Shrieve kit, pretty cool, but it was upstaged by Ringo’s drums from the Shea Stadium concert. Part of a featured Ringo exhibit that also has his red raincoat from the Rooftop and his suit from the Abbey Road cover photo.
Crowds were not bad on a Monday a little past opening; it’s not real big so I could see it getting crowded on a weekend or holiday. It was less crowded than the CMHOF was on Friday.
