JC was great. Got carried away one game and said something inappropriate. Can’t remember exactly what it was. Ended up calling Southern games I believe. Showing my age, the best one I’ve ever heard was Dizzy Dean. The tv showed a couple in the stand sitting all by themselves and Dean made the comment he kisses her on the strikes and she kisses him on the balls.

"He was open as a barn door."
"Cool as the other side of the pillow".

Politz was a bit ahead of my time, but I think he got carried away and exclaimed, "Look at that SOB go!".

Well, you missed out on an incredible piece of what we call Americana.
Being a kid listening to Ferg on the radio Saturday night are some of my fondest memories.
I can hear him now:
“ Jones drops back, throws a home run ball, waaaay downfield
COMPLETE!”

Here come the down votes. Ferguson sucked.

That was 4 years after my time in Tiger Band. I was in the North endzone instead.

I seem to recall that, in honor of his retirement someone had spliced together several of his calls.
“...and it’s a booming punt, end-over-end spiral that’s BLOCKED at the line of scrimmage.’

Ferguson did have a great voice. Loved listening to him.
But one of my favorites was "[RB name] shoots through the line for no gain."

Nothing beats this call. One of the first times I ever heard his voice. Thrilling.

Ferguson made mistakes, but his voice was just this full, rich thing of beauty. I also enjoyed him on the SEC basketball Game of the Week on TVS with Joe Dean on Saturday afternoons.

“And now here to give you the play-by-play the voice of the Tigers John Ferguson.”
When you heard those words you knew it was game time. I cherished those nights in the living room with my dad pacing up and down the floor listening to every word Ferguson would utter. Today’s generation of high definition 5K and other bull shite don’t know what they missed.

Ferguson: "Let's take ten seconds for station identification on the LSU football network"
WWL: "This is Radio 87...WWL New Orleans...it's seven o'clock...time to light up and enjoy a King Edward Cigar."

Was in the Army at Ft Gordon Ga in the late 1960's. Every Sat night in the fall listening to JF was quite a treat. Helped lessen my home sickness.
