He has nothing but asinine takes when he’s on espn. He’s a moron who isn’t taken seriously by any of his NBA veteran peers outside of maybe those who choose to pump and hype LePhony James up all the time.

Didn't catch the play by play but no doubt he was responding to his put down of Clark & the resulting pushback he was getting on social media. He went out of his way to proclaim Clark was "really good but not great by my standards. She has to win a NC for me to call her great". A coincidence that all the great players he recognized are black? He was subsequently asked about Pistol Pete being great & he danced all around his answer, never really acknowledge Pete's greatness....or not.

problem with Jay Williams is he always has to be right and more times then not he's usually wrong, he was one of ringleaders crucifying Will Wade.
With that said, he has been very critical of Duke recently.
ESPN booted him from the NBA coverage because he sucked

They talked about Clark because Jay’s comments about her earlier in the week made national news.
The vast majority of ESPN personalities like and talk about LSU in a very positive way. The idea that ESPN hates LSU is made up by this fan base.

Not that I condone the behavior but Dillingham put on a show in that half. That step back jumper was elite level. The giddy squeal was a bit much

That was a part of it, but he and Dave Pasch had absurd running commentary throughout the game about trivial and unrelated matters while a great game was taking place. The two wee making themselves the story instead of just doing their professional jobs.

I wish we could have seen Jay Williams face after Ward's shot went in
Jay Williams doesn't have any special love for UK. Hell, Williams grew up in New Jersey and went to Duke.
The constant refrain of "the media is biased against us" is infantile.

He about creamed his pants when Dillingham made his shot to take the lead and he was radio silent for about a whole minute after Ward's. Probably had to wipe away his premature ejac with his tears before he could say anything.
THe layup Dillingham made splitting two bigs, and then the step back shot to take the lead, both were worthy of announcer marveling in those shots. They were both great shots.
As far as our buzzer beater, a good announcer stays a bit more silent and lets the crowd do the announcing.
Jay Williams was fine last night. His partner was a jackass.

Rewatching the replay is so cringy. His reactions to shots are awful. Sounds like a bad porno

The Rant exists for this. How have you not gotten that by now?

The banter between the 2 announcers was ridiculously bad and hard to listen to. Jay got backed into the corner and wouldn’t admit he was wrong so he kept foaming at the mouth. That was way too long and painful to hear. One of the worst called games ever.

Dude is a douche but better than romo’s end of game retardation trying to walk thru the play

WBB side segment was one of the cringiest things I’ve ever seen on television, but I actually blame the other commentator for setting this guy up like 10 times in as many minutes.
ESPN clown car.

At one point it was 22-22 and they were going to commercial, and he mentioned Kentucky's explosive offense as being the difference in the game.
A game that was literally tied
Then he quietly said "...but still tied up going into a timeout" that was barely even audible.
Unbelievable![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Top off the game announcers with the studio half time commentary, in which LSU was literally not mentioned.

They spent about 4 straight minutes in a 4 point game at the time talking about Caitlyn Clark and her "greatness"
And Jay said he didn’t consider her the Greatest women’s player ever because she didn’t win a championship. Which is kinda ridiculous. LSU has the greatest player to ever suit up in a college basketball game retired jersey hanging up in the rafters, who never won a championship, but neither are smart enough to notice it or even talk about it.

Like someone else pointed out, at one point Williams said "can we talk about the game?"
I suspect that former players like Williams respect the women for what they're doing, but in no way think the games are anywhere close; and consider it insulting/demeaning to compare the two. So ESPN had to take him to task for his biased opinion.
My biggest problem with it, other than I don't give a shite about women's basketball, was that it was distracting from the game they were covering. Williams missed the number of fouls a couple times, didn't realize LSU was in the bonus, and then thought Kentucky was when they weren't yet. I imagine if he wasn't being berated about his opinions on a different sport, he might have kept up with that better.

They were both pretty bad, but I almost felt for the guy for a moment there. Honestly don’t know enough WBB history to say whether he is wrong, but let’s say he is — there’s a time & a place. Having his colleague provoke him while calling another game definitely ain’t it.

How are you so consumed with a basketball announcer that you’re still thinking about this 12+ hours after the game? WOW
Are you the basketball announcer’s agent? Apparently after 12+ hours you maneuvered to defend and deflect.

quote:it was really frustrating listening to them arguing and going back and forth about Non LSU/ Kentucky subject matter all the while we were mounting this amazing scintillating comeback. It’s the kind of thing announcers can do when a game is out of hand and essentially over- but that was the complete opposite case here. And by the way listening to the reply of the telecast the PMAC crowd sounded dead for all but the last two minutes. This team deserves way more support than they’ve been getting. Hopefully that changes in this home stretch!
They spent the entire game basically talking about anything other than LSU basketball.
