Yep, saw him throw in the spring game his freshman year. Maybe he could have grown into the position, who knows, but at the time he was not ready to be a college QB.

I get it that the guy wasn't cut out to be an SEC quality QB, especially in a Les Miles system at the time, but the fact that Miles never, not once, let the guy throw a pass to me is a huge travesty. You can't tell me he couldn't have had a wr sweep with a pass option or some other kind of trick play. By the time he left you know no one was still looking for him to pass.

Moving him to WR was the right decision. He had a 7 year career in the NFL because of it. No way in hell he makes the NFL as a QB.

I remember watching him in his high school all America game and thinking great athlete, but not a QB.

Was it? Put it to you this way. Odell Beckham threw a TD pass to Russell Shepard in the NFL.

I wish Trindon Holliday would’ve got the chance to be our starting DE. I think he would have been good and our pass rush could have been more dynamic.

I can’t believe people still believe this. He was never going to be a QB. Guy couldn’t throw. Look at his highlights. Puffballs.

He couldn’t grasp the playbook. But Les didn’t use him enough elsewhere. Dude was tearing up Georgia during the first half in 2009 then didn’t see the field in the second half.

He didn't come close to having the arm to play QB. He would have been good as a change of pace wildcat guy, but that is it. The main reason he came here is because Miles told him he would get a shot at QB when everyone else was telling him what I just said.

I had a friend with a few connections back then and he outright told me this was the driver and told it to me before it became apparent he would probably never throw a pass at LSU. This is the one and only guy I ever knew who had any inside info. Still know the guy but his connections went away sometime between 2011 and 2014. Don't recall precisely when though.

He played in the NFL longer than majority of LSU players. He could do anything he wanted at LSU with the right coach

An interesting hypothetical would be seeing him in a Gus Malzahn type offense or something like that.

Anyone who watched Shepard warm up throwing the ball could tell you he would never be an SEC QB. He was an explosive athlete, but couldn’t pass for shite.

A black guy working the breakfast buffet at a BR hotel on a game weekend was telling folks he was Russell Shepard’s dad. Then the bellhop at a NOLA hotel swore that Honey Badger’s dad was their Fed Ex delivery man.

I may start telling people that Herb Tyler is my stepson.

Dude wasn't very big coming out of HS. Under Les, they would have loaded the box and I doubt he would have impressed.
