I think CJJ lost the locker room

When he admitted that he had missed on several guys in the portal and threw them under the bus. It seems like after that statement the team got worse and there has clearly been animosity ever since. You can tell that CJJ is over this team and ready to clean house and start building for next year. I just hope his evaluations are better for next year. The silver lining is that he will have all off season to watch the best play and go after them with that NIL$$$$

Well half of that locker room will be gone in about a week so maybe they can have a reset

He whiffed on the portal acquisitions. He then inserted some younger guys and the offense started to click.

quote:that was the highlight this year and good enough defense. In light of portal guys not performing it really didnt hurt too much. We all know why this team lost 21 sec games.
Hitting improved after that

I dont think so but it doesn't really matter either way. The hitting and IF defense improved even after those comments. There just wasn't enough talent on the roster to compete in the modern day era of SEC baseball. And we had bad injury luck on top of already being a bad team

It seems like he hurt a few guys feelings.

Can they take a pass on SEC tournament to avoid further embarrassment?

Makes absolutely no sense. Lineup has come on towards the end of the season. Especially the young guys. Pitching wise, do you really think Guidry and everyone else comes and decides to be awful just to stick it to the coach? They just aren’t very good.

Well you can either act like a bitch or get better.

Any of the guys with any pride didn’t quit. Anyone who quit has no business on this team going forward. How about that?

There was a time this year when for example, Benge, would give up a hit to the first batter he faced because Jay’s defense was in a shift and the ball past right down where normal defender would be, and Jay would trot out, shite on him and pull him after one batter.
That’s kind of a recipe for losing the locker room.

Right, and the guys who performed the best this season were underclassmen.
Jay is balls to the wall. He wants to win titles every year but obviously relying on the portal to replace a championship roster is volatile.
I’d bet we see a shift in his approach after this season.

That’s when the outfield quit tossing.

No, these sorry arse players and pitchers that couldn’t get any better if they tried had lost Jay a while back. There is no doubt in my mind Jay did all he literally could with this team for a while to make them better, but they proved to be incapable of improving. It’s sad when 4 true freshmen step in and immediately start playing 10x better than any of the experienced portal players smh.

No he didn’t
Hitting has been great. Defense is bad but a little better than before. Maybe he lost the pitchers? But maybe they just had key injuries.

I dont think we ever saw the plow mules who pull the team along in either field players or pitchers. All looked like a bunch of followers.

I have a friend who knows a professional gambler. This gambler says that he sees members of the team at the casino after midnight many nights. I have no idea whether it's true or not but, it seems to explain some of what happened this year. What I can't figure out is if that is true and I know about it, Jay surely knows about it. Either he thought it wouldn't affect their play or he thought they're adults and can do what they want with their free time. If my head were on the chopping block, I would consider life360-ing every player on the team and have someone watching their every move or make them live in a dorm or something. I'm not going down because some 19 year olds are trying to act like regular kids. If you want to go to the casino and your stats suck, you're off the team. You made your choice
Again, I don't know if that's even true and I'm certainly not running the top amateur baseball program so Jay could probably convince me differently. Just an observation from the outside.
But I had the same feeling about BK. If I were the AD and I found out he wasn't at practice 100% of the time, vacationing during the season, not talking to recruits, I would have had someone watching his every move and I would have disciplined him for not doing his job. Oh, you don't like being treated like this by your boss? Then do your job or walk but I'm not going down because you decided to soft retire. You're going to get the job done or you're going to hate your job so bad that you quit. Someone is probably going to say no coach is going to work for someone like that yet they do it all the time. Coaches are egomaniacs and love the challenge/expectations/attention. I think setting a standard says something positive about the institution, not something negative.
My overall point is, if it is true and it did affect their product on the field, that's incredibly disappointing coming from Jay. Having said that, there's not a another coach in america I would rather have to turn things around
