Neither should be an every week home game tradition. Once in a while would be ok.

having 100k people sing a song in unison during football games is objectively awesome. do you have a better song for LSU to play?

the best way to have everyone singing in unison is to 1) choose a song that is also popular outside of an LSU football game and 2) play it once every home game during a big moment like going from 3rd to 4th quarter

Won’t Back Down by a mile.

Always found it cringy that LSU’s go-to song is a song about a truck driver looking to pick up an underage Baton Rouge hooker.

While NIETHER song has really anything to do with football, at least with "I won't back down" you could find some degree of semblance to sports where one opponent is saying they won't back down no matter how the difficult the situation they may face.

Calling Baton Rouge is a lot more up-beat, catchy, and fun for 90k people to sing in unison. But it can't be even remotely related to football, or sport in general. It's about a horney, desperate, trucker who got drunk with a woman/girl in Baton Rouge and is now wiling to spend all of his money callin Baton Rouge to talk to her

CBR is good pregame to get the crowd going but the "such a strange combination of a woman and a child" line is very weird. Won't Back Down feels very forced, feels very Aggy.

Yup. Won't Back Down is a better song IMO but I generally don't like country music and I'm not a Garth Brooks fan.

As a side note, my son, who graduated last December, somehow managed to get on the screen at Tiger stadium every game (he never missed a game in the 5 seasons he was there if he could help it). Now he is in one of the clips of the student section for the CBR intro at the games. Dang kid getting on the big screen even when he ain't there.

Callin Baton Rouge is better cause they say the name of the city Baton Rouge. Its more up beat. That's my opinion and no i won't back down.

How the hell do you get that out of the lyrics?

So every girl in Louisiana is a hooker?

other lyrics:

And it won't be long until I'm with you all the time
But until then, I'll spend my money
Up right down to my last dime
Callin' Baton Rouge

Do you generally spend all your money calling a hooker in another town when you are traveling? Do you plan to spend all your time with a hooker when you are done traveling?

quote:

Such a strange combination of a woman and a child

I take that phrase to indicate a childlike innocence as opposed to being underaged.

Callin Baton Rouge is awful. Just awful. Embarrassingly awful. Why LSU wants to be indirectly associated with Garth Brooks is odd.

Won't Back Down is at least a good song.

But as for how the two schools choose to use the songs for their fans on game days... who cares? If the fans enjoy it, then let go and let live.

Both suck, but what UF is doing with Tom Petty is lame. Forcing a tradition because he passed away and used to mow your grass seems like a bit of a stretch.

Now, callin Baton Rouge at least mentions BR, obviously. But, it really has nothing to do with football. In fact it’s closer to having something to do with statutory rape than it does with football. At least ”Won’t Back Down” has some lyrical “juice” to it that fans and players might find motivational.

Honestly, if we are talking popular songs that are upbeat AND can somewhat be related to football, I don't see why LSU doesn't play "Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting" anymore. It is literally about getting drunk, fighting and maybe trying to get laid. Here's the lyrics:

quote:

It's getting late, have you seen my mates?
Ma, tell me when the boys get here
It's seven o'clock, and I wanna rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady, she don't care
My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
A handful of grease in her hair

Oh, don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Oh, Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in

Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
'Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright, alright, alright, ooh

Well, they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out, "She's with me"

A couple of the sounds that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
I'm a juvenile product of the working class
Whose best friend floats in the bottom of a glass, oh

LSU once played a cool highlight video overlayed by the song that transition from Elton John to a more "heavy" version.

That’s not quite true. It is played as scripted the same time in pregame. Right before the team goes back in the tunnel. Also the players and coaches loved it (thought I don’t know about the current ones). I’ve always been in the mindset that you lean in to what the players and coaches like.
That’s why we played I’m from Louisiana so much because the players loved it.
The players are part of that entertainment. So those that hate on one song that the players enjoy is wired to me.

I would like to hear some of people suggestions too put in place of those two that they consider “great songs”.
