Personally, I could never get into callin Baton Rouge, just not my thing.

I hate Bon Jovi, but I get more hype singing Livin on a Prayer with the whole crowd.

I really don't care which one is considered better than the other. I just want to know why Petty is such a big deal to a fanbase at games only now that he is dead? You'd think now he was some Gainsville God when atleast half of Gator Nation probably never knew he ever even lived in Gainsville until they read his obituary.

Not only that…. I’m still only 33 and look at a 18-20 as a kid now. Doesn’t mean underage.

Callin' Baton Rouge is an awesome gameday song. Upbeat, shoutouts to BR and Louisiana in the song, fun and lively pregame environment created by it. It doesn't need a football or sports reference in it to be a good gameday song.

The people saying they hate it are probably the same people who love "Bitch I'm From Louisiana" before every kickoff. They think since most of the players love rap that every song needs to cater to this.

Downvote if you want, but they’re both great songs and a hell of a lot of fun to belt out as part of a huge crowd.
agreed, at least for Won't Back Down. I've been in the Swamp for it, and I have to say, it's pretty damn cool. The entire stadium singing at the top of their lungs, and it's an easy song to do that.

I actually think it's a cool tradition down there, but this board just can't stomach saying anything positive about any other university.

It just doesnt fit the situation of a hype song to play during a football game.

Playing a song called “Won’t back down” at the start of the 4th quarter when you’re trying to make a comeback doesn’t make sense? Even if they are ever ahead it’s still a call to not let up.

In any event, that image of BK singing along to it gave me goosebumps. Okay don’t back down, neither will we.

The combination of the whole stadium singing in unison followed by the Superman touchdown run was unnerving.

I’ll answer your question with a question. Did Petty ever write a song about Gainesville? Garth sang a song about us and we adopted it. Petty was just a janitor or whatever for a couple of months at Florida. Not the same in my book.
