The contract he gave McMahon is stupefying. Made it impossible to cut bait after 1 season no matter who was available.

Because we were under the gun from the NCAA. It’s really not a bad contract at all either. Look at the norm now. This board is full of very simple people.

“Look at the norm now”

He was dead last in salary of the 14 SEC coaches when hired and his contract is far too long for an unproven coach.

Him being paid 14th fits since the most generous realistic ranking of sec coaches has him at 13.

My bad, he and Lamont Paris from South Carolina had the same salary so tied for 13th is more accurate.

Assuming I had to hire McMahon the salary isn’t the problem, as you can see he’s cheap. 7 years with a possible extra year is the problem. He’s a 5 year max hire and you cut bait after 3 if it’s not working.

Even though I chime in on LSU MBB threads in July, that's just me and my fandom. I kinda prefer to hit that reality when it happens. Too many people with different agendas.

I got one. My love of LSU basketball. Whatever gets us there.

Woodward’s done a lot of good things since he’s been here, but he’s really screwed Men’s basketball with a ridiculous contract for McMahon. I think we’re stuck with the guy for a couple more years no matter what. No way they’re going to pay another coach a shite ton of money to not coach only to have Woody go out and give another coach a ridiculous contract for a replacement. They sacrificed Men’s basketball

Perhaps I missed a meeting, but when did Ole Miss become a top 4 SEC program?

I really think you have to cut bait and write a big check to get rid of McMahon after this season. Now that sanctions are done, Scott can hire a proven coach. It just takes $$$

All I want is a winning and consistent MBB program. It's a hard ask knowing our history.

I was with you until this crap comment. It wasn’t with Wade and damn sure not in the 80’s. Know your history before making this type of comment. The stretch from 1978-1992 LSU was up there with North Carolina on NCAA appearances.

I'll play this game:

Coach 1: 16-15, 26-7, 19-14, 31-6 (first 4 years at big program)

Coach 2: 20-12, 25-7, 28-9, 22-14 (first 4 years at big program) TBH I didn't know he was this good by the #s. shite

Coach 3: 21-15, 27-9, 21-13, 20-16 (first 4 years at big program)

There are plenty metrics that show that MM is likely to turn it around. He seems eager to not have a repeat of what we did last year.

Oats - Musselman - Michael White (similar types of moves prior to getting to the big show, and they all seemed to figure it out that second year)

When they hired Beard. You don't think they'll be top tier in the conference in 2-3 seasons when Beard is no longer toxic to top programs and Woodward finally dumps Mcmahon?

Regardless, they'll certainly be a lot better than LSU.

I'm not sure why my comment bothered you that much. Part of my childhood was predicated on watching early-Dale/prime-Dale LSU Basketball and, in turn, college basketball in general.

Easily I wasn't around for the Pete/Press or Pettit days, but my LSU Basketball history is fairly solid. Outside of Dale's prime years we have lacked consistency. Wade was bringing that consistency back, but you can't look pre-Dale or Brady, Trent, CJJ and somehow think we were a consistent winner in basketball.

Other coach’s records isn’t a McMahon metric.
