re: How much emotion do you invest?

I get emotional involved for the 3 hours or so around game time, outside of that nothing really.
Very much this. I'm really into the game as it happens and I'll yell and cheer as loudly as anyone. But once the game is over, I'm pretty much done, emotionally with the game. Games used to effect my mood for the rest of the day, and that's just silly. I will now only allow a game to affect my mood positively. Life is too good to be upset over a game.

It's been a lot harder to absorb losses since moving to Alabama.
I dated a girl (who was an Auburn fan) for awhile. She brought her young (like 2 - I think) son over and we watched the Auburn game in 2012 (the way too close 12-10 game). She was cooking and I was upstairs with her son, pacing and visibly agitated with the game (not cursing). He was emulating me and it was the cutest thing ever (I don't have kids). We went downstairs at some point and he lost his footing and hit about every stair on the way down. Ending up with a nice welt on his forehead. I never saw her after that. Part of her probably thinks that I pushed him. Of course I didn't, but I wouldn't blame her. Either way my behavior probably wasn't what a single mom was looking for in terms of a "father figure."
I still regret that.
But on the plus side, I've gotten pretty handy with patching drywall.
I think this probably falls in the "too much" range of emotion invested.

I confess that I am not nearly as emotion about LSU football as I once was. The disappointing fourth quarter losses of recent years has eroded my confidence in the program.
A victory over Bama would prove that a lot.

Useless banter and not the 1st time LSU laid an egg (UAB).
uh, not exactly the same, 1/9/12 was for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. A tad more important.

The most emotion I experience is during a home loss, mainly because most of the guys in our tailgate crew take it way too seriously and it sucks breaking down the tents and gear when no one is having a good time (or even speaking sometimes).

This year, I'm going to try and wait until Sunday, September 20th to determine what level of emotion to invest into this season.

I really thought this would be the tell tale sign of the season. I thought if we win, hey we should win 10+, if we lost, i thought we'd be 7-8 win type team.
Well, so much for that.

I am happy when we win, bummed when we lose and get over it pretty fast.
That said, with all of the talk about 1/9/12 (which is understandable), the straw that broke the camel's back for me was the past year's Alabama loss.
I was actually in Alabama when it took place - not in Tiger Stadium - at a friends lake house. The entire game, LSU seemed destined to win. When the personal foul was called against us when we were about to put the game away...I knew then and there that we had lost the game. There was no doubt in my mind.
When that happened, later that night, I felt a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders that has been in place since my youth.
I literally quite giving a shite.
Headed into the season, I honestly don't care. I will cheer like crazy and hope for the best, but I am not going to ever get tied up in wasting emotions on college football again.
I don't know who I need to thank for that - Nick Saban, Les Miles, John Chavis...or just maturation of a middle aged dude.
It has made keeping up with it all fun again though - good fun, not worrisome fun...ike watching your kids play.

Use to care a lot, now not very much at all.

100% and I could not careless about the NFL, so Sundays are for recovery

Loss=scream, cuss, break things, get hammered, ruins my whole week. Win= get hammered celebratorily and have a great week.

I read everything I can on the opponent (except McNeese because I am from that area... know that team). I read and keep up with recruiting. I get amped on game day and need a nerve pill in the 1st quarter so my blood pressure doesn't go up too much.
That begin said, before you think I am overboard, my parents had season tickets my whole life. There was never a question where I would go to school and I never missed a home or away game when I was in school.
When my dad was diagnosed with a heart condition, his cardiologist told him... "No more LSU football games!" That was so pitiful. He would sit in one part of the house and my mom would give him the play by play.
I HURT after the cheated NC game. It didn't help that I had a co-worker (good friend except during football season) was an avid gump. He showed up at work the next day in a NC tee he had made and wore that stupid shirt ALL YEAR...
Guess I am over the top.

Nope. 2000 was Saban's first year and we finished 8-4. Nice turnaround from the DiNardo years but nothing huge. The UAB loss was embarrassing, but nothing more than that.
1/9/2012 was for the crystal. Not even close in level of importance.

Our loss to 'Bama last year felt like a gut punch. It's the worst loss feeling I've ever had after a game.

As a Tiger fan living in Colorado, I read the Rant and Dandy Don daily since there's no one close by to commiserate with. I am WAY too invested in LSU football, but it's in my DNA. Dad was a prof there, and Mom got a couple degrees there. Mom was actually more hard-core fan than Dad. Me and my sibs all went there (had no other choice).
Being a girl (yes, guys, there are girls who read the Rant), my Colorado friends think I'm nuts. My husband's friends think he's the luckiest guy in the world. By fall camp every year, I know every player's stats. By the end of the season, I know all the top recruit's stats.
Football season is my weight-control -- I'm so nauseous during the whole season that I lose 5 - 10 lbs guaranteed. I'm elated when they win; depressed for a couple days when they lose. 1/9/2012 will forever be a low point in my life.
Thanks to all you Ranters -- I know I'm not alone. Keep the faith, boys, 2015 is gonna be special. GEAUX TIGERS!
