re: How bad was Scott Woodward?

Fat Scott was touted as a great AD and one of us. He left our biggest sports in shambles. The hires he made on his own were disasters. He also was the last AD to bend for the ncaa and was scared of the media. Plus his NIL ideas were a debacle.

I think it has become apparent that his soul focus was spending as much as possible to bring in big name coaches regardless of whether or not they fit the culture of LSU. BK and MM were respected names and big time hires in the moment. But it feels like there was zero thought put into their hiring, just flashy. Gotta give him credit for JJ though. Something about blind squirrels and nuts or whatever.

He shouldn’t get credit for JJ. The board had to tell him no because his first idea was to get Sully and his next was to get Pat Casey.

I think he did some good things. I would give him an overall grade of D. His lack of job interviews/offers
speaks volumes about what other institutions think about his job performance at LSU

Woodward was that arse back in college that when he showed up at a party, people whisper "here comes that FLUCKING douche", and then when he approaches them, they give him an ultra weak "wass up?"

Wasn't sold on the guy based off of his previous Jimbo Fisher contract at TAMU that we all laughed at, only for him to get worse with the BK contract that we cried over.

He wouldn’t have been bad. He’s got pitching every year.
GTFOH! Few have done less with more than Kevin O'Sullivan! His only championship came because 2017 LSU had about a dozen things go wrong! F that guy!

I remember when he was hired how excited everyone was to bring back an LSU guy after dumbass Alleva. Little did we know, Woodward was at least equally stupid, if not worse.

Should have seen all the outrage and despair on this board the day they ran him off.

He cost 2 universities well over $150 M for bad hires. I’d say he’s pretty bad.
He just threw bad contracts around. A few worked out. Most did not.

Woodward signed the two worst contracts in college football history. Nothing more needs to be said.

I don’t think history will be kind to him at all. Not only did he make some bizarre, awful hires and back them up with insane contracts that were financially devastating and did that at multiple stops, his management of the athletic department and people surrounding it was awful.
He allowed Gordon McKernan to get way too close to the program and get tens of millions of dollars in free advertisement because they were fraternity brothers and buddies. Gordon got to take all the credit for basically every player who came here even though he wasn’t in probably the top 5 or 10 biggest donors, and it made the AD look unprofessional and sleazy. Notice how that came to a screeching halt after he was fired?
You can’t fire Will Wade because he’s not professional enough but do things like let a personal injury attorney be the face of your NIL because you hang out at BRCC together. He was an arrogant frickup and that’s just one example, but he very much ran the AD like a corrupt politician

Legit question cuz I can't remember, did Woodward make O hire a black DC in Daronte Jones because of the 2020 bullshite?
Have not heard that. And FTR, once Ed got canned, Daronte did a good job in '21 and that mostly with 2nd stringers.
Now, Scott needs to include the Pelini hire/buyout and Ed's stoopid buyout to his resume.

Let’s see, he hired one of the most successful head coaches from a big time program( Kelly). Hired a wbb coach who brought the school its first national title. He hired a baseball coach who has won 2 national championships in 4 years. He promoted a coach to head coach and won the school first championship in gymnastics. Can u name another AD with such success? Yes he hired McMahon, but who really would take the job facing severe penalties from the ncaa?

The good he did was championship-caliber. Bringing in Jay Johnson and Kim Mulkey were huge feathers in his cap. Even though people love to point out that it was Kelly Zinn that got Jay here and Kim was looking to come home anyway, he does deserve some of the credit for those moves.
He wasn’t responsible at all and deserves only the credit for shutting the frick up and giving the contracts

Not bad-just overrated

No we don’t. He didn’t want Jay. He was TOLD after his first two rejections to hire him

If SW was still athletic director you can bet Kiffin would not be the football coach and Wade wouldn’t be coming back

The guy puts out a good piece, and all you can say is that he spelled someone's name incorrectly, whereas it turns out that the spelling is also somewhat obscure. Get over yourself.
